The Time Traveler’s Wife Season 1 Episode 3 finally shifts the narrative to the titular character. For the most part of the first two episodes, we saw Clare meeting Henry but quite a younger version of him, who is unlike the ones she met when she was young. But eventually came to circle with the fact that she can’t avoid her destiny. That’s how time works.
As Clare got to know Henry, she also learned about how he first got to know about his powers. The person who trained him and why time traveling is not a boon but a curse for him. We saw how Henry had to see his mother die time and again during the different stages of life. So we saw Henry’s side of the story as he figured out his life as a time traveler. Now the third episode sees how Clare found her role as the Time Traveler’s wife.
The Time Traveler’s Wife S01 E03 Recap
The Time Traveler’s Wife Season 1 Episode 3 sees an older Clare telling her side of the story of navigating through her teenage years as she was still in the process of getting to know Henry. An older Henry asked a 6-year-old Clare to bring a notebook next time. He was going to let her know about the dates he would appear upon.
Clare dedicatedly followed the dates and eventually fell for Henry when she was a teenager. But Henry told her that he was not married to her in the future. It broke her heart somewhere. But the sixteen-year-old Clare didn’t give up right away. She continued to try, only to see Henry pushing her away. She eventually found a connection in a friend of hers named Jason during a party, leaving a note behind for Henry.

The same night she came running looking for Henry, whose time was up, and he disappeared at the last moment. The next time Henry appeared, he came across Clare, who was not acting the way she usually did. She took him for a drive hoping to find a teenage version of Henry whom she could date.
Clare was recklessly driving, believing that if she existed in the future, she wouldn’t die today. Henry had to calm her down. Clare later went on to question Henry about cops catching him. Henry admitted to being a time traveler; he has opted for unfair means to retrieve clothes and to survive.
Clare had a request for Henry, and that was to kill Jason. Henry didn’t understand the reason until Clare showed him the burns on her body. Jason had forced his way onto Clare when she had changed her mind about getting intimate. Clare didn’t tell Henry the whole truth about Jason raping her. But it was enough to fuel Henry with anger.
Henry helped Clare kidnap Jason, who continued to lie, which saw Henry revealing that he was Clare’s husband. Henry gave her a marker stating he doesn’t know why he grabbed it but believes it could help her. Clare called all her friends whom Jason abused. They used the marker to write the stories of Jason traumatizing them on his body while he was tied to a tree.
The Time Traveler’s Wife Season 1 Episode 3 Review
The Time Traveler’s Wife Season 1 Episode 3 continues to take a darker turn. Just as the promo of the episode claimed, it was high time we shift to the titular character who takes the lead. The third episode successfully did it after having the first two completely about Henry and how his powers work and what he goes through.
We still wonder if the show will continue to invest more in Clare’s storyline rather than Henry’s. So far, the show has gone hand in hand, with both of them being integral parts of the story. Rather than it just being Clare. After introducing us to the characters in the premiere, the second and third episodes of The Time Traveler’s Wife introduced us to the traumas both of the characters went through when they were young.
Clare’s storyline in this episode is all about everything a teenager goes through. On her side, she dreamed of Henry being her soulmate ever since she met him. Only to see their heart getting broken when he revealed that he wasn’t the one to marry her in the future.
From the moment Henry came to reveal that, it was obvious the episode was heading toward the time Henry would finally tell Clare the truth. Clare taking revenge on the boy who traumatized her was one of the most satisfying moments of the show so far. Still, there is a lot we don’t know, and we may find out in the coming episodes of The Time Traveler’s Wife.
