Nintendo has officially announced The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2, confirming the long-rumored remake will arrive in 2026. The project was revealed during the June 2026 Nintendo Direct, where Nintendo described the classic as being “reborn” for a new generation.
The remake appears to significantly upgrade the original Nintendo 64 game’s presentation rather than simply offering a straightforward port. The first footage shows a redesigned version of Hyrule while retaining recognizable elements from the 1998 adventure.
Ocarina of Time Returns With a New Visual Style
Nintendo has shown only a brief glimpse of the remake so far, keeping many details under wraps. The reveal footage includes the Great Deku Tree and Link, while the Triforce plays a notable role in the opening sequence.

The original Ocarina of Time debuted on Nintendo 64 in 1998 and became one of the most influential 3D adventure games ever released. Its transition to a fully 3D world, Z-targeting combat system and context-sensitive controls helped establish conventions that remain common in modern action-adventure games.
Nintendo has confirmed that the remake is exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2 and will launch in 2026, although a specific release date has not yet been announced. The official Nintendo store currently lists the game as “Coming 2026.”
The remake is also arriving during The Legend of Zelda franchise’s 40th-anniversary period, making it one of Nintendo’s major celebrations for the series. More information about its gameplay, visual upgrades and release date is expected in future announcements.
