Resident Evil has generated an estimated $410 million in Steam revenue in 2026, accounting for 32% of the platform's horror game revenue

Resident Evil games have generated an estimated $410 million in Steam revenue in 2026, accounting for 32% of the platform’s horror game revenue this year. The figures come from Alinea Analytics’ October 30 report examining the commercial performance of horror games across Steam.

The franchise’s strong performance is being driven by several releases, including Resident Evil Requiem, alongside the remakes of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4, as well as Resident Evil Village. Together, these games have helped Capcom’s long-running survival horror series capture a substantial share of the PC horror market.

According to Alinea Analytics, the franchise accounts for nearly one-third of all estimated Steam revenue generated by horror games in 2026 so far. These figures are third-party estimates, not official earnings disclosures from Capcom or Valve.

Resident Evil Requiem Generates $211.3 Million on Steam

Resident Evil Requiem is the franchise’s biggest contributor to the 2026 figures, generating an estimated $211.3 million on Steam. That represents 16.6% of the platform’s total horror game revenue and 40.7% of the revenue generated by horror games released in 2026.

The game’s performance highlights the importance of major releases in shaping the genre’s commercial results. Although several established titles continue to generate revenue years after launch, Resident Evil Requiem has emerged as a particularly significant contributor to this year’s figures.

Resident Evil Requiem generated an estimated $211.3 million on Steam in 2026, making it the largest contributor to the franchise’s reported revenue.

Alinea Analytics’ report, “Horror games are KILLING it (literally and figuratively)”, provides the estimates. The report does not identify these figures as official financial results from Capcom.

The wider horror market is also growing. Alinea Analytics estimates that horror games have generated $1.3 billion on Steam in 2026 so far, a 17% increase over 2025. That is more than four times the estimated revenue recorded in 2019.

Horror accounts for approximately 7% of Steam’s estimated $18.1 billion in total revenue this year. Newer releases are contributing substantially, with games launched in 2026 generating $516.2 million, or 41% of the genre’s revenue. Games released in 2025 and 2026 together account for 54%.

Other notable performers include The Outlast Trials, which generated an estimated $62.1 million on Steam in 2026, and R.E.P.O., which earned $44.7 million. Phasmophobia contributed another $28.9 million.

Resident Evil’s estimated $410 million in Steam revenue places it well ahead of other established horror franchises in Alinea Analytics’ 2026 estimates. The Outlast series accounts for approximately $63 million, while Silent Hill games have generated around $32 million.

The numbers illustrate how a combination of major releases and older games can sustain a franchise’s commercial performance. With Resident Evil accounting for 32% of Steam’s horror revenue this year, Capcom’s series remains a defining force in the PC horror market.
