If you don’t know Fred Savage, you’re about to find out. He was the actor who played the starring role of Kevin Arnold in the American sitcom “The Wonder Years.” He essentially grew up right before our very eyes.
Before landing the lead role in the ground-breaking 1980s family sitcom, the 12-year-old Chicago native had been acting for years prior to it. Savage’s character, Kevin Arnold, along with other characters in the show, including Paul Pfeiffer, played by Josh Saviano, and Winnie Cooper, played by Danica McKellar. All of the pivotal characters of the show grew up in middle-class suburbia in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
In the massively popular show, Kevin develops a little crush on Winnie Cooper, his close friend and the girl who lives across the street from him. Savage was the youngest actor to ever be nominated for an Emmy for his performance in the comedy series when he was just 13 years old.
The following year, he received another nomination. As stated by Howard Rosenberg, a former TV critic for the Los Angeles Times, in 1989 that “The Wonder Years” was “the only series about kids that seems to have been designed and written by people who actually were kids,” which is primarily why it was so immensely popular among the viewers, who were mostly young adolescents.
Since then, Savage has had significant parts in comedies like “Working” and “The Grinder,” where Savage played a lawyer with a grumpy elder actor brother (Rob Lowe) who believed he was competent to work as an attorney since he had previously played one on a television show.
In addition to directing scores of episodes of popular TV shows like “Wizards of Waverly Place,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “2 Broke Girls,” “Modern Family,” and “The Conners,” Savage has also voiced several animated characters.
He has served as executive producer for films like “Phil of the Future,” “It’s Always Sunny,” “Garfunkel and Oates,” and, of course, the Lee Daniels remake of “Wonder Years,” which was created by fellow executive producer, Saladin K. Patterson.

Why has he been in the news as of late?
The misconduct allegations made against the actor-director earlier this year had made Savage better known to generations who weren’t fixated on their TV screens when The Wonder Years was popular and weren’t familiar with his name.
His positions as executive producer and director on the current ABC revival of the coming-of-age TV comedy were lost as a result of the sexual assault allegations made against him. And this isn’t the first time he has faced such claims against him. Since he was just 16 years old, he has had to deal with allegations of inappropriate behavior on set.
The women who accused Savage of misbehavior earlier this year spoke candidly with the Hollywood Reporter about their claims. One woman told the media that she and the other women needed to share their experiences about the wrongdoings they endured as a result of Savage’s inappropriate actions.

The assault and misconduct allegations against Savage
A customer who was associated with Savage during the final season of the sitcom filed the first lawsuit against him. The actor, who was 16 at the time, was accused by Monique Long of verbally and sexually assaulting her on a daily basis. Long was fired after complaining about her alleged treatment, according to Long’s attorney at the time.
Savage’s attorney referred to Long as an unhappy worker and claimed the lawsuit was an attempt which was intended to embarrass Savage in front of the public. The March 1993 lawsuit was filed, and it was resolved outside of court in April 1994, where Savage claimed he did nothing wrong.
Then, in March 2018, Youngjoo Hwang, who worked in the costume department on “The Grinder,” filed a lawsuit against Savage and the film and television divisions of 20th Century Fox. The Times analyzed the case, which claimed the actor had engaged in assault and violence and used From Fred’s side there was always a display of aggressive behavior, violent actions, threats, and persistent swearing directed towards the female employees while working on the Fox program.
The lawsuit detailed a particularly pivotal occasion where Savage, after purportedly receiving advice to alter his behavior towards Hwang, fiercely slammed his palm three times against Ms. Hwang’s arm after the show’s director requested that she brush dandruff from Savage’s suit’s shoulders.
Fred went on to explain that these accusations against him were absolutely untrue. He claimed that Fox had concluded its thorough investigation and found that there was no evidence whatsoever to back up these allegations. None of the victim’s claims could be substantiated because they did not happen, according to Savage’s account of the situation.
Another crew member, a woman who is now in her 30s, talked to The Hollywood Reporter about her experience while working with Savage. Others frequently saw her receiving “blatant favoritism” from Savage himself. She claimed that in 2021 after she had left the show, she met Savage in a pub where the cast frequently met.
He was purchasing drinks for the cast. When she entered the women’s restroom, she said that he followed her and put his mouth on hers very forcefully. He attempted to grab her pants in ab attempt to take them off. She tried to moved in order to walk away from him. He then pressed his mouth against hers once more before grabbing her hand and pulling it towards his groin area. The woman tired to retreat and get rid of him but Savage did the exact opposite.
He slowed down, and she hit him with her shoulder to exit the restroom and free herself. He kept contacting her, texting her, and even leaving voicemails for her, which made the woman feel that her privacy was invaded.
He called himself an old friend of hers in a voice message and said that they had previously collaborated for a while, and then they stopped, because he became “a giant a—hole, a gigantic a—hole.” He said that he truly liked her and that he would love to have the opportunity to become her friend. Fred, profusely apologized and said in the voicemail that he was deeply sorry about how badly he had messed up, and he believed he owed her a sincere apology “for a minute here.”
What is the actor’s opinion on the entire ordeal?
The Times was unable to get in touch with Savage for a comment on the entire situation. On the contrary, he stated in a statement released to the media that he had spent most of his life working on sets with thousands of people and had “always strived to contribute to an inclusive, safe, and supportive work environment” while in the process of filming. According to him, he has never created such situations for the people who have worked with him.
Fred says he is devastated to learn that there are co-workers who feel he has fallen short of his professional goals and responsibilities. He agrees that while there are some incidents that are being reported that are absolutely not true and could not have happened, any one person who feels hurt or offended by his actions is only one too many, according to his recent statements released to the media.
