The First Descendant is preparing for one of its biggest post-launch updates with the July 15 patch, bringing new endgame content, extensive Descendant balance adjustments, quality-of-life improvements, and a packed schedule of summer events.
In the latest Dev Note Vol. 27, Nexon outlined the philosophy behind the upcoming changes, explaining that the goal is to create a healthier gameplay environment where more Descendants remain viable across different activities instead of players feeling forced to rely on a single character.
The update introduces the beta version of Void Intercept Battle: Extreme, reworks Serena and Blair, adjusts Ines after analyzing player data, buffs several weapons, and expands Onslaught Mode with a new difficulty level. Alongside gameplay improvements, players can also expect new cosmetics, login rewards, progression events, and limited-time bonuses throughout July and August.
Serena, Ines, and Blair receive major balance updates
One of the headline features of the July 15 update is the balancing of Serena and Ines. According to Nexon, the adjustments are designed to preserve each Descendant’s identity while improving overall game balance.
Serena’s Redemption skill is being reworked by separating its additional damage into single-target and area-of-effect values. This change aims to strengthen boss damage while preventing excessive scaling in large-area encounters. To further support different playstyles, Serena will also receive two new Transcendent Modules: Battlefield Nun, which emphasizes powerful firearm damage against single targets, and Archangel, a module focused on airborne skill-based combat.
Meanwhile, Ines is receiving a targeted nerf after performance data showed she significantly outperformed other high-tier Descendants in activities such as Onslaught Mode Level 3, Axion Plains, and Bounty Operations. Nexon confirmed that Dark Current’s skill power damage will be reduced while continuing to monitor her performance after the update.
Another major beneficiary is Blair, whose monthly balance pass substantially improves his kit. Several abilities now cast faster, deal more damage, and interact better with Flame Zones, while numerous skill modules have been redesigned to support new offensive and defensive builds.
Void Intercept Battle: Extreme launches in beta

The update also debuts Void Intercept Battle: Extreme, a new beta endgame mode that merges Hard Void Intercept and Void Abyss Intercept into a single challenge.
Players must first defeat every Void Intercept Colossus before unlocking Critical Point Breakthrough, which allows them to customize battle difficulty using various Critical Point modifiers. These modifiers can reduce player defenses, strengthen Colossi, penalize movement, or introduce additional combat restrictions.
Higher Critical Point values increase farming efficiency, allowing players to choose between easier clears or greater rewards. Completing Extreme battles grants Quality Certified ETA Vouchers, which can be exchanged for exclusive seasonal items. During the beta period, Nexon will continue balancing the mode before its full Season 4 release, while a leaderboard will reward players capable of completing the highest Critical Point settings.
Weapons, gameplay systems, and Onslaught Mode expanded

Several weapons also receive notable improvements. Divine Punishment gains new healing-based offensive effects through Praise, Purifying Blaze, and Warmth, while The Final Masterpiece now creates chill explosions, Frostbite effects, and enhanced Icicle damage against stronger enemies.
Firearm Core Types have been adjusted for A-TAMS, Nazeistra’s Devotion, and Truly Deadly Arson, giving players more build flexibility.
The update also introduces important gameplay improvements. Rolling now grants temporary damage reduction and crowd-control immunity, while resurrected players receive a short period of invincibility along with immunity to crowd-control and status effects. Nexon is also lowering the maximum cooldown reduction cap from 90% to 75%, while maintaining current effective cooldown values to preserve existing builds.
Onslaught Mode expands with Level 4 difficulty, offering higher rewards, including additional Gold, Kuiper Shards, Superconductive Cooling Units, experience, and chances to earn rare Alignment Devices.
Summer events and new cosmetics begin on July 15

The July update is accompanied by several limited-time events running through August. The six-week Summer Battlefield Support Operation rewards players with Sharen’s Medical Support skin, Harris’s Medical Support skin, Ultimate Weapon Selection Boxes, Alignment Devices, and other progression materials through daily logins.
Additional activities include Assemble Events I and II, Descendant Progression Missions, Descendant Firepower Check, Accelerate Research Week, Descendant’s Weekend, Dismantle Ancestors Module Week, and multiple readjustment discount events.
Players can also look forward to new cosmetic collections, including the Awesome Service and Awesome Burger outfits on July 15, returning skins for Sharen and Hailey, and pirate-themed skins arriving on July 30 for Bunny, Freyna, Luna, Ines, Nell, Dia, and male Descendants.
While Nexon noted that some details may change before release, the July 15 update is set to deliver one of the game’s largest content drops, significantly expanding endgame progression while refining character balance and rewarding active players throughout the summer.
