Recap
The longest tunnel ever excavated on Oak Island has been discovered by the Curse of Oak Island team. The boys are certain that something big and significant had to have been transported through the tunnel because it is an astounding seven and a half feet tall.
Episode 3 of The Curse of Oak Island Season 11 debuted last night, bringing with it a ton of new and fascinating discoveries. Gary Drayton and Rick Lagina discovered an antique ramrod guide on Lot 5, which may have been made in the 1600s or 1800s and was used to insert rounds into muskets.
But the most intriguing revelation from Friday night’s show was a cryptic hidden tunnel. The boys have been making great progress in their quest to locate a tunnel they think extends beneath the Garden Shaft from east to west and into the Baby Blob! The group believes the tunnel, which is located slightly over a hundred feet below the surface, will lead them to a hidden room where they can discover immense wealth.
Craig Tester learned the findings of a Carbon-14 date on a piece of wood that was taken up from 108 feet east of the garden shaft on yesterday night’s show. The woodcuts were dated with 55% falling between 1734 and 1804, and 24% between 1656 and 1684, so the guys were not dissatisfied.
According to how the scientists interpreted the data, the tunnel was probably created as early as the 1730s—more than 50 years before the Money Pit was first discovered, which the depositors most certainly built.
What a tunnel that proved to be, too! Once more, the drill team found traces of a tunnel when they moved their rig somewhat closer to the Garden Shaft while remaining on the eastern side.
They hauled up a massive seven-and-a-half-foot-long hardwood beam at 108 feet. Terry Matheson recognized it as an upright beam right away, indicating that this tunnel was taller than any other they had discovered, measuring about 8 feet.
The beam was probably manufactured before mechanical saws were invented because of indications that indicated it had been cut by hand, possibly with an adze tool.
The boys were astounded by this beam’s enormous size. They questioned why someone would construct a seven-and-a-half-foot tunnel more than 100 feet below the surface unless they had a lot of cargo to move and intended to do it covertly.
