SUPER ROBOT WARS Y is celebrating a major milestone with a substantial content update released today, as Bandai Namco Entertainment commemorates the tactical RPG franchise’s 35th anniversary. The update combines free content for all players with a paid Anniversary Expansion Pack, bringing new missions, additional playable units, fresh weapons, and progression improvements to the latest entry in the long-running mecha crossover series.
Available now on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, the anniversary update continues to expand SUPER ROBOT WARS Y, which launched as the first brand-new mainline installment following SUPER ROBOT WARS 30 in 2021. Alongside the new content, Bandai Namco has also released a new trailer showcasing the additions included in the anniversary celebration.
Free anniversary update adds missions and faster progression
The free update introduces two commemorative missions that honor important milestones for the franchise. One mission celebrates the 35th anniversary of SUPER ROBOT WARS, while another recognizes the series reaching 20 million copies sold worldwide.
Players will also benefit from several gameplay improvements. The maximum pilot level has been increased from its previous limit to Level 200, allowing for further character growth during extended play.
One of the biggest additions is the new BOOST game mode. Designed to accelerate progression, BOOST grants double experience points, credits, and MXP, while reducing the costs associated with aircraft upgrades and pilot training. This allows both new and returning players to strengthen their squads more efficiently while tackling the game’s challenging tactical battles.
Anniversary Expansion Pack brings new missions, units, and weapons
Alongside the free content, Bandai Namco has launched the paid Anniversary Expansion Pack, significantly expanding the game’s post-launch content.
The DLC adds 33 new Area Missions, giving players additional battles tied to the game’s original crossover story. Buyers will also receive the Anniversary Expansion Purchase Bonus, although the publisher has not detailed every reward included in that package.

Combat options have also been expanded with 12 new universal weapons that can be equipped across all units. In addition, the expansion introduces five new playable units and one new Assist Crew Member, giving players more strategic flexibility when assembling their teams.
SUPER ROBOT WARS Y continues the franchise’s legacy
Since debuting in 1991, the SUPER ROBOT WARS series has become known for bringing together iconic robots, pilots, and storylines from numerous mecha anime into a single tactical RPG experience. SUPER ROBOT WARS Y continues that tradition with turn-based, grid-based combat, cinematic attack animations, and extensive unit customization systems.
Bandai Namco says players will once again command the Guardians of Steel in a story centered on overcoming an impending catastrophe while uniting heroes from multiple anime universes. With today’s anniversary update, the publisher is expanding that experience while celebrating one of gaming’s longest-running crossover franchises.
