Previously on Summer Time Rendering; Episode 5, Maelstorm
The last two episodes of Summer Time Rendering were the most informative ones. However, they made the viewers confused even more. The lady from the ferry apparently is able to kill the shadow and save Shinpei. She introduces herself as Nagumo Ryonusuke, and Shinpei recognizes herself as a novelist, although not sure what Nagumo’s intentions are because before we can even get into her details, a mess is being made by the shadows. Nagumo helps Shinpei get on his feet, and they rush to the festival.
However, they find that everyone at the festival is dead, and there is a pile of corpses. Shinpei’s mind is frozen, and he unintentionally tries to count the shadows. Shinpei even sees Sou’s shadow murdering Sou while he was trying to Mio. While Nagumo tries to Shoot the omnipotent shadow from the guns, she is unable to do so, and the Giant Shadow mimics Nagumo and makes a shadow woman that shoots her. Shinpei tries his best to save Mio however, she dies and becomes the food for all the Shadow’s mother.
Shadow Mother
It turns out that the summer festival was the means to revive all the Shadow’s “Mother”. The Pile of corpses starts to disappear as the shadow takes over the whole Island. The only doctor on the Island, it seems that he has an idea what shadows are about, in particular their mother who appears to be a small girl. While Giant Shadow was hurting Shinpei, he also informs that Shinpei has their mother’s eye that can control time.
Almost all the people on the Island are dead except for Shinpei, Nagumo, and Ushio (because she is a shadow). After seeing no hope of saving anyone, Shinpei resorts to killing himself so he can start again. He asks Nagumo to shoot him in the head and tells her that he can go back on 22nd July every time he dies. Nagumo tries to shoot Shinpei in the head and tells him to find her next time, and she will save him. Nagumo successfully shoots Shinpei in the Head with Ushio’s Shadow holding back the giant shadow. As Shinpei is reversing back in time, he sees the whole picture of the Island and also meets his eyes with Shadow’s “Mother”.
Ushio’s aura comes again and tells Shinpei that there is a limit to the power. Shinpei finds himself back on July 22nd but a little ahead from his last checkpoint. He concludes that each time he dies, he will be summoned a little ahead from the last point until he would be unable to go back at all. As the episode ends, we also see Ushio on the beach’s shore on 22nd July.
