No matter what situation the doctors and staff of Skymed end up in, they almost always manage to get through it. While Crystal’s expertise in medicine increases every day, Hayley seems to be going through secret addiction issues and Lexi is still unsure about the choice she made of leaving cargo for Medevac.
CBC’s Skymed is a medical drama with a not-so-regular plot, featuring a group of nurses, doctors, and other medical staff working on saving lives at thousands of feet above the ground.
Besides the exciting cases this air ambulance deals with, we also get a look into the personal lives of the workers, each dealing with their demons while trying to save the lives of others.
Season 2 of Skymed returns with a familiar cast, with Natasha Calis playing Nurse Hayley, Praneet Akilla playing Jay, Crystal’s role being played by Morgan Holmstrom, and Captain Austen Bodie being portrayed by Aason Nadjiwan.
Aside from them, Thomas Elms, Mercedes Morris, and Kheon Clarke reprise their roles as Captain Milosz, Lexi, and Tristan Green.
Recap
Lexi quits her position as the captain of the cargo team and instead goes back to her old job as the captain of the medevacs. Nurse Hayley receives an emergency alert from the Thompson Community ER, stating that all flight nurses will be working at the ER due to staff shortage.
Hayley treats a patient with ascites and calls a doctor for her treatment. Crystal accidentally sees the “Cute weirdo” message on Hayley’s phone, giving Hayley no choice but to reveal the fact that she is seeing someone. Crystal gets her endocrinology results and just walks away after seeing it.
Kyla, the woman accompanying the ascites patient suddenly pulls out a gun on Crystal when she shows up to treat her. Hayley asks Dr. Paul to write her a prescription for Oxycodone but seeing her taking these drugs even after 6 months of her surgery creates suspicion.
Both Hayley and Crytal are held at gunpoint, but after Hayler tries to call for an emergency, Kyla ends up shooting Crytal in the chest. Stef treats a patient named Matthew with an abnormal pacemaker.
While Hayley treats Crystal’s bullet wound, Kyla threatens her to perform a liver transplant using her liver to treat her mother. Since Crystal was just a medical student, performing surgeries was not what she had any experience with.
Moreover, being shot wasn’t going to help either. One of the children at the hospital ends up drinking their father’s medicine, giving them toxicity, which has to be treated by Lexi, as she’s the only one present there after the hospital lockdown.
Crystal and Hayley performed the surgery successfully. Dr. Yana later calls up Crystal after the surgery and lets her know that her interesting work could soon be published. Hayley misses her mom, and she seems to have gotten addicted to the oxycodone pills due to the pain, risking her life in the long run.
