To bring more light to polygamous relationships, an American reality series called Sister Wives has been airing since 2010 and has put out eighteen seasons worth of content. The show follows the life of a polygamous family and how they battle prejudices and stereotypes related to polygamy.
This TLC show has a family head named Kody Brown, a man who is legally married to his first wife, Robyn, while also being in a similar relationship with Meri, Janelle, and Christine. This polygamous couple has managed to give birth to eighteen children: one from Meri, five by Robyn, and six each by Janelle and Christine.
The large family has been battling against the judgments of society, trying to do their best to make people aware of such relationships. Kody Brown has revealed previously that what they are doing is completely in alignment with the law since he is officially married only to Robyn and because his other relationships are spiritual commitments.
While the overall concept of the show continues to fascinate many, people are still divided on how they feel about the show. On the one hand, insiders have revealed that the relationship between the sister wives is something never seen before and that it is amazing how the family has found ways to function and divide tasks while others bring the sanctity of their marriage into question.
The complicated relationship that the family shares and the fact that they televised it so blatantly had the Brown family being called in for investigation, which eventually led the family to sue the state of Utah for their laws related to polygamy that made it illegal.
The Plot
Over the years, after the seasons were released, we saw this huge family go from living in Utah to Las Vegas, only to finally settle in Flagstaff, Arizona. The recent seasons have shown the family go through more and more troubles, and the current season is clear proof that the family is slowly growing apart.
Kody and Christine went through a divorce of sorts, and this was just the start of the end. The Brown family is struggling to keep their family together, first with Kody and Christine, followed by a huge fight between Kody and Janelle, and Meri’s tough life-changing decision. All of it seems to be pointing at their failure to keep polygamy afloat.
Robyn, the wife currently legally married to Kody, seems to be the only one with a good relationship with her husband, though her dream of having a large family in the house seems to be coming apart. Now that Christine has taken time off from her relationship with Kody, she is on a roll of self-love and self-discovery, going on trips and celebrating herself along the way.
The family is going through a rough patch, and this new season is all about it. The new episode we are all so excited for will introduce us and the wives to a new member. It turns out husband Kody Brown has found love again, this time with a woman younger than his wives and three of his kids.
