Hey Wizarding World, today we will review a film that has finally been released after a lot of controversies, Secrets Of Dumbledore. I wasn’t excited about this film because the second part wasn’t that great and also because they fired Johnny Depp as Grindelwald. But after watching this movie, my opinions have changed, and I’m going to talk about that thing. Obviously, you can enjoy this film with your family because these Harry Potter universe films are mostly made for younger audiences.
Although you don’t need to watch all the Harry Potter movies for this film, as it’s a prequel to the Wizarding world. But you need to watch the previous two Fantastic Beasts movies in order to understand what’s going on in this film. As for the story, it takes place right after the second part, where Grindelwald played his moves, and Dumbledore needs to stop him. But both of them had made a pact that they won’t directly fight each other, so they have gathered up a team that would fight on their behalf. This film is a treat for Harry Potter fans.
Secrets Of Dumbledore Review
You would have already heard about all the controversies regarding this film, due to which the studio had already pushed Jonny Depp and JK Rowling to the side. But after that, another controversy regarding Ezra Miller came up, and Warner Bros also gave him the same sweet treatment by putting him far to the side in this film. Too far that you won’t even notice when he shows up and leaves, also his role was not that important to film. Because you can tell from the title of the film, ‘Secrets Of Dumbledore’, that it focuses on Dumbledore and his past secrets.
They changed these secrets, his past story, and some details about his family a bit from the novel, and it turned out pretty good. And if you are thinking, after all these controversies, why did the studio decide to compete in this trilogy, then you’ll get your answers after watching this film. That answer is that it served the thing that was missing from the previous two parts, which is the experience of the Wizarding world. But the thing that I found most disappointing was the way they didn’t explain the spells after using them, I mean, I used to learn every spell that showed up in Harry Potter and then use it in my school, they stole this thing from me.
But anyway, I particularly liked two scenes where they did a great job showing the spell battle. The other disappointment that I felt was the length and the pace of the film, and I think that this will bore the mass audience, but not that bored that they start hating this film. Because there’s a lot to see in this film, like its beautiful visuals and new beasts which have an important role in this film. Not like what they did in the second film, showing beasts just because the name of the film was “Fantastic Beasts And The Crimes Of Grindelwald”.
Character’s Role & Performance
As for the Characters of “Secrets of Dumbledore”, the most character development that I felt was, for a doubt, Jacob and Queenie. You get connected to these characters, and this time this feeling was presented in a good way. And for Tina, she was missing in this film, or should I say she was just shown as a cameo, and the given reason for this was okay-ish. As I previously said about Ezra Miller’s character, looking at his scenes felt as if a lot of his potion was cut down, making him a side and a simple character. The hype that was made around his character in ‘Crimes of Grindelwald’ was somewhat concluded in this film, but in a lazy way, not how the character needed it to be.
Then talking about the fan’s complaints regarding the lead character Newt Scamander. He was given a major part and importance in the first part, but then his character was totally lost in the story of the second part, which disappointed many fans. Thankfully the studio listened to the fans, as they have maintained the balance between his story and his Fantastic Beast aspect, and he has an important role in this film. Judy Law felt perfect for the role of Albums Dumbledore, and I think he knows how to present Dumbledore’s character in front of fans.

Mads Mikkelsen As Grindelwald
The most controversial character, Grindelwald, is played by Mads Mikkelsen. As a Jonny Depp die-hard fan, I wanted to see him this iconic character once again, and I’ll still say Warner Bros made a really big mistake removing him. But after watching Mads Mikkelsen’s performance as Grindelwald, you can feel that he has perfectly portrayed the character. Now I know why Dumbledore is badly after this guy because he looked frightening to me. And even though Grindelwald’s looks were changed for some strange reasons, Mads Mikkelsen gave a different life to this character through his performance, but it wasn’t enough to carry this whole film on its back.
Better Than The Previous Two
Altogether you are going to love the performance of each character, and none of the actors will disappoint you. And this film too won’t disappoint you because I think “Secrets Of Dumbledore” has come out to be a better film than the previous two in this series. And it also does a good job of balancing the connection between the Fantastic Beasts and the Harry Potter world. But the grip that is needed throughout the film is greatly missing, due to which the story gets loose several times, mostly in the second half of the film, where we get all details. There is no cliffhanger at the end, and by the ending that they have served, the studio can continue the story by making its sequel, and after seeing this movie, I think they should go for the sequel.
But in the end, the sequel’s production is dependent on the box office collection and the audience’s reaction & support. As for the topic regarding “Dumbledore being gay”, some idiots don’t understand that this character was written the same in the novels. And due to these few idiots, JK Rowling had to announce that Dumbledore wasn’t gay, this broke the heart of the die-hard fans. The film follows the same story as it is shown in the novel, but with some changes, and this take by the studio was a good step. Also, they didn’t put JK Rowling’s name anywhere in the credits, which means the studio wants to earn through this film by avoiding all the controversies.
We’ll get to see if the studio succeeds in this plan after the box office collection comes in, also if the other two remaining sequels would be possible or not. And as I said, after watching the story of this movie, I would like to see its universe grow. The thing that I’ll like to see change is its film director because David Yates has stuck to Harry Potter from the start too much. I think they should replace him and give someone else a chance who could explore the Fantastic Beasts universe in a new way for the fans.
Other Aspects & Ratings
Talking about the other aspects of the film, the BGM is good, as well as the direction. The color correction sometimes feels a bit dark, but it can be ignored because of the type of word it is set in. On the other hand, you’ll also like its photo and cinematography. As I said, the length of this film is the major problem, due to which the film feels a bit stretched throughout. It was altogether an okay-ish entertaining film, but it is a must-watch for die-hard fans, and they’ll enjoy it like me.
And if I had to give ratings to some of its aspects then, for the actions in the film, which are few but great, I’ll give it a 3/5. The pace of the comedy in this film was okay-ish, so I’ll give its comedy 1/5. The drama in this film wasn’t great, but it was better than the previous two films, so 3/5. The suspense is also not filled with many twists & turns, and the die-hard fans can easily guess what’s going to happen in the end, so its suspense will get 1/5. There were also some good thrilling moments, so its thrill aspect would get a 2/5. So this was my Secrets Of Dumbledore Review, please let me know how you felt after watching this film.
