The new season of this intense military training series rightfully titled “Jungle Hell” will be airing another episode this week. Taking place in Thung Ui, an unforgiving jungle filled with poisonous insects and high humidity, the recruits are sure in for an awakening.
First seen on television on 19th October 2015, the show’s raw portrayal of pain has led it to have multiple installments over the years. SAS has also had many celebrity specials, with celebrities like Katie Price, Alexandra Burke, Sam Thompson, and the oldest contestant ever, Fatima Whitbread being a part of it.
The format of SAS involves making its contestants, called “Recruits” go through several training courses that would simulate the actual Army and Special Force training. Even if the whole course lasts as short as two weeks, the intensity of these tests can make each second seem a lifetime. UK’s training courses have been the cause of death of many recruits, showing just how brutal things can get in here.
Up until 2018, only male contestants could be a part of the show since the Ministry of Defence did not allow women to be a part of the Special Forces. After this year though, women were allowed to be a part of it, causing the show to start taking in female contestants as well. SAS is notorious for testing both the Physical and Mental abilities of a person, leaving the contestant no choice but to overcome their limitations.
The 8th season, which has been airing since January 23rd, 2023, will be a test of the harsh environment as well. Jungles are known for the unexpected dangers that could be lurking around once it gets dark. To see the recruits try to survive in this situation is entertaining and awe-inspiring.
SAS Who Dares Wins Season 8: The Recruits

Their only goal is to survive the place and leave the show with a much more mature, strong, and wiser version of themselves. Jamie, for instance, did not allow his deafness to make him any less and wanted to prove his abilities on the show.
SAS Who Dares Wins Season 8 Episode 2: Recap
In the previous episodes of this Channel 4 series, we’ve seen the contestants arrive at the suffocating jungles in the heart of North Vietnam. With the Directing staff having a new addition this year, the recruits were in for a brutal test of all aspects of their being. As soft as Chris Oliver may appear, it is notable to recognize the fact that he is a former Royal Marine leader, with skill and experience that could easily help him in sorting out the weaker recruits from the strong ones.
The recruits are ordered to immediately jump into the cold water from their boats and are told to swim up to the location they’ll be staying at. Once they reach the place, they are washed up and given necessities. After settling down in the location, they are called in for the first test of skill, the Trainasium. It involves climbing up to the top of the tower and walking to the other side by using two thin rods as a platform.
Many contestants fail to walk over perfectly, but those that catch the eye of the directing staff are contestant no. 1 and a few others. The staff has a meeting where they talk about the recruits and decide to call Recruit no. 1 for a chat. Later, they weigh in the Bergen bags and punish everyone when some of the recruits carried heavier bags than they were told to have.
