American Idol Season 21 Episode 4 Recap
Out of the nine participants from the fourth episode of American Idol Season 21, seven could grab the golden ticket to Hollywood week. They are Dany Epp, Amara, Valerio, Hannah Nicolaisen, Reette Thorns, Tripp Taylor, Colt Glover, and Cay Aliese. The remaining two, Savannah Christian and Rach Karma, could not make it into Hollywood.
The Exceptional Contestants
Though nine contestants will go to the Hollywood week, four stand out of the crowd. The first is Dany Epp, whose mother gets invited to the judge’s panel only to provide genuine reviews of her daughter’s singing. She immediately gets the golden ticket from all the judges after singing ‘The One That Got Away’ sung by Katy Perry.
Hannah Nicolaisen can be the point of attraction in the 21st season. She prioritized competitive volleyball over music in her college days. She makes every judge extremely happy by singing ‘Make You Feel My Love.’
Trip Taylor plays piano and sings ‘I Believe To My Soul.’ He seems to be Lionel’s son to Katy. Lionel agrees that he is strong, but the other contestants are stronger. It will be like throwing him into the wolves. Katy finds the country singer and one of the top 10 contestants named Colt Glover. Luke also adores the song ‘Rock Salt And Nails’ sung by this 21-year-old college student.
The ‘On The Fence’ Contestants
Amara Valerio sings ‘Bust Your Windows,’ with the aggression of not getting the chance to sing at her high-school graduation. The judges enjoy her story and somehow hand her the ticket. Reette Thorns had been struggling with her mother’s struggle with addiction. Lionel gets touches and hugs her like a father when she starts crying after her performance.
This 20-year college student gets the golden ticket anyways. Cay Aliese sings an original song written for her father. Katy Perry gets touched by her story but not her performance. Luke boosts her by addressing the uniqueness in her voice.
Contestants That Could Not Make It
Savannah Christian is the first performer in the history of American Idol to perform virtually. The judges enjoyed watching her performance through the VR goggles. However, her performance was not as great as her idea. So she could not make it.
Another performer that got rejected is Rach Karma, who sings ‘Holy Diver.’ This episode does not concentrate more on the 28-year-old receptionist and immediately moves on to the next contestant.
American Idol Season 21 Episode 4 Review
Singing the song in front of the singer is a risk, and Dany Epp took it by singing Katy Pery’s song before her. Moreover, Dany won Katy’s heart by adding pain to her voice. It shows how realistic and emotional her voice is. These points made all judges agree with her selection. Hannah Nicolaisen seems to exist for singing and helping American Idol make business.
However, she has a gorgeous tone and unique voice. She can steal the limelight in the future as she can convey the emotions behind the song sung by Bob Dylan. It is rare to make every judge extremely happy. The 18-year college student, Trip Taylor, has a deep voice like a star. He is eligible to go ahead with American Idol. Katy feels Colt Glover will make it to the top 10.
So, we are excited to see whether he fulfills her expectations. The judges were interested more in Amara Valeri’s, the resident of New York, story than her singing. It shows that they only wanted to give her a chance and see how far she had gone. Reette Thorns require more confidence. The audition was not up to the mark, but the judges only gave her a chance to apply her skills.
Cay Aliese described her late father’s struggle and her relationship with him. The judges gave her a chance to join American Idol though her performance did not hit the bull’s eye. Virtual Reality was a surprising element. Sadly (but fortunately), the judges focused on the performance than the concept.
Several contestants describe their struggles, and the judges get touched. It feels like emotions get prioritized more than skills in American Idol. It can entertain us for some time. However, it will be better not to forget the real motive behind the show.
