Six years after entering Steam Early Access, Craftopia is finally preparing to reach Version 1.0 in 2027. While the open-world survival game has remained in the shadow of Pocketpair’s hugely successful Palworld, the developer is now making it clear that Craftopia played a crucial role in the studio’s history.
Pocketpair announced the milestone on Craftopia’s sixth anniversary, explaining that the game began as a project created by a small group of friends. The studio was much smaller when development began, and Pocketpair says the experience helped shape the company that eventually created Palworld.
Craftopia Was the Foundation for Pocketpair’s Growth
Pocketpair’s latest announcement makes the connection between Craftopia and Palworld particularly clear. The developer said that
“without Craftopia, Pocketpair as it exists today, and even Palworld, simply would not exist,”
highlighting just how important the survival game was to the company’s development.
Pocketpair’s head of publishing and communications, John “Bucky” Buckley, echoed that sentiment while celebrating Craftopia’s anniversary. In a post shared alongside the 1.0 announcement, Buckley wrote,
“Happy birthday to Craftopia, the game that Pocketpair would not exist without!”

The statement gives Craftopia a much more significant place in Pocketpair’s history than its current reputation might suggest.
Craftopia originally launched on Steam Early Access on September 4, 2020, and has spent six years receiving updates, fixes and new features. Pocketpair says the focus for Version 1.0 will be less about dramatically increasing the amount of content and more about polishing the existing experience, resolving outstanding problems and improving overall quality.
The developer has also confirmed that Craftopia 1.0 will arrive on Steam and Xbox Series X|S in 2027. However, the Xbox One version will not make the transition to 1.0 because Pocketpair could not achieve the performance and stability it considered acceptable on the older hardware.
For Pocketpair, Craftopia’s eventual 1.0 release is therefore more than another game launch. It represents the completion of the project that helped establish the studio before Palworld transformed it into one of gaming’s biggest independent developers. Source: Pocketpair
