Pocketpair Lead Says Palworld 1.1 Won’t Get a Yearlong Development Cycle for a Massive Update

Pocketpair has begun looking ahead following the successful launch of Palworld Version 1.0, but players should not expect its upcoming 1.1 update to match the scale of the game’s full release. John “Bucky” Buckley, Pocketpair’s publishing and communications lead, has clarified that the studio wants to avoid spending an entire year developing a single massive update.

The clarification came after Buckley asked fans for suggestions about what they would like to see added to Palworld. The post attracted more than 1,700 responses, with players proposing everything from additional storage options to much larger additions such as new continents, higher level caps and major multiplayer features. Buckley subsequently explained that many of those ideas are simply too large for the team’s current plans for Version 1.1.

Palworld 1.1 Will Focus on Smaller Additions

After seeing the scale of the community’s suggestions, Buckley admitted that asking for ideas may have set expectations too high. In a follow-up post, he wrote,

“Things like ‘add a new continent’, ‘add 20 more levels’ and similarly massive undertakings are not really what we want to do with v1.1.”

He then made the development timeline even clearer, saying,

“we’re not planning to spend a year making a massive update for 1.1.”

That does not mean Pocketpair is abandoning Palworld or that Version 1.1 will lack meaningful content. Rather, Buckley’s comments indicate that the developer is looking toward more manageable additions instead of another expansion on the scale of Version 1.0.

Some of the community’s suggestions also demonstrate why certain features would require substantially more development time. Buckley explained that creating variants for more than 200 Pals would be possible, but doing the work manually could realistically take a year or longer if the team focused heavily on it. He also indicated that Pocketpair prefers creating such content itself rather than simply automating the process.

The studio has already shown that smaller gameplay improvements can make a difference, while larger ideas can potentially be saved for future updates. Meanwhile, there is still no confirmed release date or complete feature list for Palworld 1.1. Pocketpair has also indicated that additional collaborations are in development, giving players something else to anticipate while the team works on the game’s post-1.0 roadmap.
