Disney+’s latest Star Wars production is one of the most awaited ones. And today, we bring you the Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 1 recap. This series marks yet another landmark hit in the long-running Stars Wars saga as it chronicles the life of Jedi Master Kenobi ten years after the events of The Revenge of the Sith.
Obi-Wan Kenobi takes us to a setting at a point in the saga prior to the events of a New Hope where the Galactic Empire has a strong foothold in the reign of the galaxy with a tyrannic rule of oppression. Be sure to check out the episode recap. But readers beware as there are major spoilers ahead. After that warning, let’s take a look at this episode!
Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 1 Recap
The debut episode kicks off with a brief recap chronicling the events that brought us to this point. Then, we move to Tattoine. In Mos Eisley’s dirty, sandy roads, the Galactic Empire lands a spacecraft where Inquisitor Reva and two other Jedi Hunters seek the remainders of the Order. After their menacing entry, they browbeat the locals, and an unnamed Jedi pops up to fight the injustice. He’s caught but makes an escape.
We then see how Obi-Wan lives now. He works cutting meat and lives inside a cave. Sometimes, a Jawa pops up to sell him scrap. During his free time, he checks upon Luke, now a ten-year-old boy living with his Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. Going back to his cave one night, he senses a presence. It’s the Jedi that escaped. He shows him his lightsaber and tells Kenobi his name is Naru. Still, Obi-Wan says his name is Ben, but soon after, Obi-Wan advises Naru to hide his lightsaber and live another life because the Jedi Order is defeated.
Alderaan
We now go to Alderaan, and we see how a young Leia lives. She’s a happy girl living the life of a Royal Child raised by the Queen and Senator Bail Organa. When she has to perform royal duties, she prefers to escape into the woods to play with her droid and contemplate the ships that fly into Alderaan’s port. Meanwhile, back in Tattoine, Obi-Wan steals food to make ends meet. And sends a toy to Luke. Only to be confronted by Uncle Ben, who scolds Obi-Wan for doing it so.
When Obi-Wan says that Luke must be trained and be taken care of, Ben tells him that if he’s going to do the same thing as he did with Anakin. Something that made Kenobi flinch. After that, Ben goes his own way, but he’s stopped by the Inquisitors, who question him about the whereabouts of a Jedi. When Reva is about to behead Ben, another Inquisitor stops her from doing it so, then scolds Reva for her impulsiveness.
Leia’s Abduction
When Leia goes out to play in the woods, she’s abducted by some dark, sinister dudes. She’s put in blindfolds and restraints, and then she’s dragged into a spaceship. Smash-cut to Tattoine, where Ben Kenobi remembers the days of thunder, and it’s Bail Organa calling him for assistance, but he says no. But that rejection troubles Kenobi. He has bad dreams and regrets his decision.
When he sees that Naru was found by the Inquisitors and hung in Mos Eisley’s square to intimidate the locals, he feels terrible. Then, walking back to his cave, he discovers that Bail Organa traveled to Tattoine to personally ask for his help. Obi-Wan accepts, goes into the desert, unearths his lightsaber, and then goes back to Mos-Eisley to board a ship to find Leia. We then find out that it was Reva who ordered Leia’s abduction to lure Obi-Wan out of hiding.
