Philomel realizes this may be her only way out of the palace, but she still hesitates because of all the responsibilities she has. Being Philomel’s father, Le Guin has decided to stay with her until she makes up her mind so that we will see more of Philomel and the silver-haired cat in the upcoming chapters.
No Place For The Fake Princess Chapter 38 opens up with Le Guin introducing himself to Philomel, which comes as a shock as Philomel wonders how he got into the castle even when movement magic is blocked there. Le Guin replies that there’s no magic in the world that he can’t break, and he has been in the castle since last night.
Philomel asks Le Guin to stop being weird, and so he tells her that he has been following what she told him for so long; he waited on the cushion all this time, even when he got bored of it. Philomel looked at the cushion in shock as she gave it to the silver-haired cat. She then turns towards Le Guin and, looking at his silver hair, asks him if he is that cat, and he immediately agrees. Philomel calls him a liar, and so he turns into a cat to prove to her that he is indeed the silver-haired cat. Philomel is left speechless.

Le Guin tells Philomel that he tried to reveal his identity to her many times when she was alone, but he couldn’t do it because there were people around her, and he also didn’t want to get too close to a place where divine power was too strong. Philomel gets enraged and asks Le Guin to get out of her room immediately as she feels cheated.
Le Guin asks her to calm down, but she keeps throwing stuff at him, and so he tells her that no matter how hard she tries, nothing is going to hit him anyway, and so she finally calms down a bit. Philomel asks him why he was here in the form of a cat, and so Le Guin replies that he came to see what’s wrong with his daughter and to also pick her up.
Le Guin asks Philomel to go back to the magic Tower with him, but Philomel wonders why he’s acting like this all of a sudden. As Philomel doesn’t give any answer, Le Guin asks her if she isn’t going to go to the magic tower, and she starts thinking that if she wants to start a new life, then it would be in a place no one knows.
Le Guin offers his hand to Philomel and asks her to just come along with him, and Philomel agrees to go along while thinking that this might be her only way out of the palace and retrieve Princess Elensia. As Philomel approaches Le Guin’s hand, she suddenly gets bombarded with some of her memories revolving around everything she has heard so far, including what Pollan said to her.
Seeing Philomel in such deep thoughts, Le Guin speaks up to break the silence and says that he can see how oppressive and tiring her life has been to this point and so he can understand how she truly feels. Philomel wonders if he understands what she is thinking because he is her father, but he continues by saying that she wants to make the people here miserable. He said that because he is also not the kind of person to stay quiet after being hit, and so he decides to stay with her. Philomel gets annoyed as she didn’t even mean anything of this sort.
Philomel asks Le Guin if the magic tower will be fine without him around, and Le Guin replies that he usually doesn’t work and just orders other people around. He tells Philomel that it’s best in life to work less and earn more. Suddenly someone knocks on the door of her room, and so Philomel immediately asks Le Guin to turn into a cat when she sees Nasar coming in.
