Excited for Mayflies Episode 2? A new two-episode BBC drama called Mayflies will showcase Scotland’s brilliance in plenty. It seems to be a great miniseries, starring Tony Curran from Your Honor, Ashley Jensen from After Life, and Martin Compston from Line of Duty.
The show is based on Andrew O’Hagan’s bestseller novel of the same name, which was selected as the 2021 Scottish Book of the Year by Waterstones, and received high praise from authors like Colm Tobin and Graham Norton. In a remark to the BBC, O’Hagan commented on the TV adaptation, “the story is extremely personal to me, and it’s wonderful to witness the characters come to life.”
Mayflies Plot
Everybody has their own Tully Dawson—the friend who helps you define your life. Jimmy and Tully start a fantastic friendship centered on music, movies, and the rebel attitude in the summer of 1986 in a little Scottish town.
After finishing school and facing their dads’ closed-off world, they race towards the peak of their youth: a beautiful weekend in Manchester, the heart of all of working-class Britain that inspires them. They make a promise: to approach life differently, set to the finest backdrop ever recorded.
After 30 years, one of the friends gets a phone call from another. Tully has terrible news and a request that will put their love, friendship, and commitment to the very limit. Mayflies serve as a tribute to both everyday tragedy and teenage joy. It explores the joy and pains of love as it bids a touching farewell to a longtime partnership.
