Mamma Mia 2 Filming Locations
The actual shooting of the film started on 12 August 2017, in the Republic of Croatia at Vis Island. This small Croatian island is a part of the Adriatic Sea. The scene where Sophie graduated along with her best friends was shot in Oxford, England.
Mamma Mia! is known for its wonderful songs and the filming for those songs began at Shepperton Studios. This studio is situated in Shepperton, Surrey, England. Various scenes of the movie were also shot in Oxfordshire, England. For instance, the cycling scene was shot in Wytham, a small village in Oxfordshire.
The restaurants such as Jastozera and Barjaci, located near the Vis Island in Croatia were converted into Greek Taverns for the filming. Jastozera was the place where Harry and Bill met the fisherman. This restaurant is located in the Komiza town on the island of Vis. Barjaci was also the place where the filming of the famous Abba song took place. This place is located north of Barjanska bay.
The scene where Donna and Jerry missed the Ferry was filmed inside the city of Vis Island. The scene where young Donna sets her foot for the first time on a beach was filmed at Berioska Island. Not just this, almost the entire theme of the film was based at this particular location. And new paths were built by creating roads and all the trees you have in the movie are real. They were grown naturally by providing the right amount of water and sunlight daily for the filming of Mamma Mia 2.
Other Important Filming Locations
They were repetitive scenes from the Greece Market. At some point, these scenes were so accurate that you eventually ended up thinking that they all were filmed in Greece. But the things are not as idyllic as they appear on the surface. Those scenes are shot in the city of Vis and to your amusement, all the fruits and vegetables you saw in those markets were actually imported from the market of Greece to give the scene an accurate look. Pizzeria Dionysus is the main filming location here.
While Bill and Donna were on a boat, they saw a helpless fisherman who was waiting for some kind of transport to reach the church where the love of his wife was getting married. Bill helped that fisherman so that he could escape with his love. The church where the marriage was happening took place at St. Jerronium church, located in Provo. This city is the neighborhood of the city of Vis.
Stivinia bay is that beautiful beach where Sam and Donna went for a boat tour for the first time. Mamma Mia 2 featured all the mesmerizing scenes of this beach. Reaching this beach on foot is hard but you can take a boat. One of the scenes is filmed at the Srebrna Bay. This beach gave a romantic view to the film. The shooting for the Mamma Mia!
