The long-awaited arrival of the Kingdom Hearts series on Nintendo platforms is finally becoming a reality, and new details are already shaping player expectations. Following its announcement during a recent Nintendo Direct, Square Enix has now revealed estimated file sizes for the upcoming Switch 2 versions. While fans are excited to experience the franchise natively rather than through cloud streaming, the storage requirements are proving to be a major talking point.
The complete collection will demand a significant chunk of space, making it one of the largest releases on the platform to date. With a confirmed launch date set for October 8, 2026, players planning to dive into the full saga may need to prepare their storage well in advance.
Full Kingdom Hearts Collection Storage Breakdown
The biggest highlight is the combined Kingdom Hearts HD collections package, which includes multiple entries spanning the franchise’s timeline. The total estimated file size for the full Kingdom Hearts collection on Switch 2 stands at a hefty 131GB, positioning it among the largest game installs ever seen on a Nintendo system.
Breaking it down further, Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX is expected to require 54.2GB of storage. Meanwhile, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue comes in at 26.8GB, and Kingdom Hearts III along with its Re Mind DLC will take up around 45.2GB. These figures reflect a shift toward full native performance, replacing the previously criticized cloud versions that dominated the original Switch release.
It is important to note that these are still estimated sizes listed on the eShop, meaning the final storage requirements could slightly change before launch. Even so, the current numbers already give players a clear idea of what to expect.
The transition away from cloud-based versions marks a significant improvement for the franchise on Nintendo hardware. The earlier cloud releases were widely criticized for performance issues, latency concerns, and reliance on stable internet connections. By delivering fully downloadable versions, Square Enix is addressing one of the biggest complaints from fans.
Players who previously purchased the cloud editions are not being left behind. Square Enix has confirmed that those users will be eligible for discounted upgrades to the new digital versions. The cloud editions themselves will remain playable until June 9, 2027, providing a transition window for existing owners.

In addition to digital downloads, Square Enix is also planning a Game-Key Card release for the Switch 2 version of the collection. This hybrid physical format allows players to own a cartridge while still requiring a download, which helps manage the large file sizes associated with modern AAA titles.
Looking ahead, the company has also confirmed that Kingdom Hearts IV is in development for the Switch 2. Notably, the game is expected to launch simultaneously with other platforms, marking a major step forward for Nintendo players who have often received delayed releases in the past.
While Square Enix has not yet shared technical details about Kingdom Hearts IV on Switch 2, the promise of a same-day release suggests confidence in the system’s capabilities. This could help position Nintendo as a more competitive platform for major third-party titles moving forward.
