Pokémon Champions will not be expanding with Pokémon Stadium-style single-player modes anytime soon, according to director Masaaki Hoshino. While the game takes inspiration from Pokémon Stadium, Hoshino says adding substantial solo content would work against the title’s primary purpose as a competitive battle game.
In an interview with VGC, Hoshino explained that the team wants to prioritize PvP while the player base continues to grow.
Pokémon Champions Will Prioritize Competitive Battles
Hoshino directly addressed the possibility of adding modes similar to Pokémon Stadium, saying,
“For the time being, we probably won’t be adding additional modes similar to Pokémon Stadium.”
He explained that introducing more single-player activities could encourage players to spend less time in PvP, potentially increasing matchmaking times and making the competitive experience harder to maintain.

He added,
“At least while more people are increasingly playing, I want to focus on PvP for the time being.”
That approach fits the game’s current identity. The official Pokémon website describes Pokémon Champions as a battle-focused experience built around Ranked, Casual and Private Battles, with cross-platform play between Switch and mobile players.
The timing also coincides with a major competitive update. Regulation Set M-C begins September 8 in the Americas, adding six new Mega Evolutions and 24 newly available Pokémon to battles, including Mega Absol Z, Mega Garchomp Z and Mega Lucario Z.
For now, Hoshino’s comments suggest players should not expect Pokémon Champions to become a broader single-player Pokémon experience. Its development remains centered on keeping its competitive ecosystem active and populated.
