Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition players are finally getting the Baltic Powers expansion after a long and uncertain development. The previously cancelled DLC has officially been revived and is now scheduled to launch on September 10, 2026, according to the Age of Empires team.
The announcement marks a surprising comeback for the expansion, which was originally revealed in 2024 before being delayed and later cancelled in early 2025.
According to the official Age of Empires Blog, The Baltic Powers introduces two new civilizations—the Danes and Poles—alongside new challenge scenarios, game modes, more than 25 maps, and over 50 hero customization options.
An open beta is now live on Steam, allowing existing Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition players to test the expansion ahead of launch. Additionally, the base game is free to play on Steam until August 13, giving new players a chance to experience the beta during the promotional period.
The unexpected revival has been welcomed by longtime fans who had assumed the expansion would never be released after Microsoft announced its cancellation in January 2025.
