Did Umesh and Swathi Get Caught?
The 2024 brilliant Netflix thriller series titled “Killer Soup” takes place in the city of Mainjur with the introduction of the Shetty family, which comprises a seemingly lovely couple including Swathi and Prabhakar, who appear to be dominant while Swathi is timid and obedient.
The family man, Prabhakar, wakes up in the morning when his wife lovingly and carefully cooks trotter soup for her husband’s breakfast, and soon it gets revealed that Swathi has a habit of cooking the same dish regularly.
While having breakfast, Swathi and Prabhakar get into an argument due to Swathi’s desire to become a chef and own her restaurant in Mainjur, but things aren’t all good between the two due to Prabhakar not being interested in investing money in Swathi’s restaurant.
In order to turn her dreams into a reality, Swathi secretly goes to the shady part of the town to receive cooking training from Khansama, a mysterious woman living in the same town, and this is revealed to be her happy place due to Swathi’s love for cooking.
After breakfast, Prabhakar leaves for work while Swathi returns to the kitchen to find that her husband has thrown out the soup she made for him, thus leaving her infuriated, and in a fit of rage, she breaks the bowl in which she served the soup to Prabhakar.
Prabhakar didn’t go to work. Instead, he went to a massage parlor where he pitched his new business idea to his elder brother, Arvind, while Apeksha visits Swathi and the two have a discussion about Apeksha’s future plans as she desires to study abroad, but her father is against her idea.
Meanwhile, Prabhu, along with his elder brother, arrive at the same place to taste different foods, after which it gets revealed that Prabhu is facing troubles in his venture to build a successful business, unlike his elder brother, who owns a successful business that deals with drug supply.
During the course of the film, it is revealed that Prabhakar stole a massive amount of money from his elder brother’s company. Only Swathi knows the truth, but things take a dark turn when Prabhakar wants his brother to invest in his new business venture involving the launch of a construction company, and Prabhakar plans a massive party to lure his brother in.
Meanwhile, Prabhakar gets blackmailed by someone, so he hires a private investigator to look into the matter while Swathi is shown having an affair with a man named Umesh, who looks identical to Prabhakar, and the private investigator manages to photograph them together as he has been tracking Swathi due to her being the suspected blackmailer.
Swathi goes to learn cooking from Khansama, where she learns that her cooking isn’t good and she needs to work on her skills before offering her private lessons to learn, but Swathi refuses the offer due to a lack of funds provided by her husband.
Well, after Swathi discovers that the private investigator is capturing her with Umesh, she decides to nab him and is successful in snatching the camera away from him before he gets killed in a freak road accident that appears to be planned.
After Swathi successfully takes the camera, she returns home and calls Umesh to her house as she believes that Prabhakar will spend the night away as he was supposed to be pitching his new business idea to Arvind, but things take a dark turn after Prabhakar returns home early after his elder brother refuses to invest in his business.
Prabhakar finds Swathi and Umesh together, following which he physically assaults Swathi in a fit of rage. Well, guess what?
As it was supposed to happen, Umesh strikes Prabhu to save Swathi’s life, thus killing Prabhakar, following which the two are stuck in an uncanny situation, but Swathi decides to save themselves by replacing her husband with her lover after noticing the uncanny resemblance between the two.
Meanwhile, the body of the private detective is discovered by the police, while Swathi and Umesh wrap Prabhakar’s body in a bag and carry it to a scheduled place to bury his body, thus successfully covering Prabhakar’s murder for the moment.
But this starts the game of blackmail between the family, starting with Umesh being suspected to be the blackmailer as the two brothers used to visit the massage parlor where he worked regularly, even though he pretends not to understand Hindi.
It soon gets revealed that it was his cover after he ran from his hometown in Odisha due to the false case against him after he had gained a massive amount of debt due to his gambling addiction.
Well, our suspicions are confirmed soon, as Umesh is revealed to be the blackmailer, which comes off as a surprise to Swathi too and leads to a confrontation between the two where Umesh admits to her that he was blackmailing Prabhakar to extort money for him so they can run together, as he has been open about his desire to start a new life elsewhere with his love.
Well, in order to gain fun, Umesh, now posing as Prabhakar, informs his brother about the blackmail and seeks his help by lying about the reason behind the blackmail, stating that Umaish came to know about Arvind’s involvement in the drug case, following which Arvind provided the money to Umesh, but things took a darker turn after Swathi and Umesh started to receive threats about the missing funds.
Well, after a while, it was revealed that the blackmailer was none other than Apeksha, Arvind’s daughter, as she wishes to pursue an arts degree abroad, but her father is against it and forces her to become the company’s accountant.
Even though she is given a minimal job, she successfully finds out about the funds and starts to blackmail the couple with hopes of getting enough money to escape from the town and settle abroad.
Swathi soon realizes that Apeksha is behind the blackmailing and confronts her, following which Apeksha asks the couple to join hands with her and use her to blackmail Arvind for the funds.
Following Prabhakar’s advice, Umesh informs his brother about Apeksha being kidnapped and the demand for ransom.
To save his daughter, Arvind gives the ransom to Prabhakar, but things take a darker turn once again when Arvind arrives at Prabhu’s house to clear some doubts, only to discover the plan following which Apeksha shoots her dad accidentally, which is recorded by Kirtima.
Meanwhile, Kirtima uses the video to blackmail Swathi to let Prabhu be in a relationship with her, as she was his mistress while working as an accountant for Prabhu’s company, while Swathi and Umesh’s secret affair is revealed to Charles, the trusted henchman of Arvind, who agrees to work for Swathi after she blackmails him using Apeksha.
In a twist, it gets revealed that Apeksha isn’t Arvind’s biological daughter, as his wife had an affair with her lover, who is suspected to be Charles after she marries Arvind, leading the two to have arguments continuously, but Arvind decides to raise Apeksha as his own after her mother died.
Another twist reveals that, as everyone knows, Apeksha’s mother died during childbirth, and she was told that her father did everything to save her mother, but the truth is that Arvind was neglectful towards Apeksha’s mother during her pregnancy as he was out of town most of the time.
Meanwhile, Inspector Hassan continues to see Thupalli, the senior police inspector who started the investigation into the mysterious death of Nadar, but he falls to his death before he can catch Swathi. The reason behind Hassan’s seeing Thupalli’s ghost is revealed to be their closeness to each other.
Did Swathi and Umesh get caught for the crimes they committed?
In an interesting twist, it is revealed that every time Hassan sees Thupalli’s ghost, he gets important clues related to the case, and Thupalli’s poetry books helped him because he used to study in hopes of cracking the exam to become a higher official in the police, and with his help, Hassan finds a photograph of Umesh and Swathi’s affair.
Things turn hard for Hassan due to the photographs getting destroyed after Charles put glue on them knowingly, so Hassan fails to catch the perpetrators, but the police do manage to get their hands on the DNA report that reveals that the body didn’t belong to Umesh, thus confirming that the dead body belonged to Prabhakar.
Well, during the investigation, Hassan came across the pharmacy shop from where Swathis bought the acid that she later used to reconstruct Umesh’s face to make it believable that he was Prabhu, as even though the two were identical, Umesh’s eye wasn’t working, following which Hassan also discovered that Swathi was with Umesh buying the acid.
Hassan and Asha, his loyal colleagues, go to the inauguration ceremony of Swathi’s new restaurant to confront her and arrest her for the crime the couple committed.
Things take a turn for the worse after Umesh accidentally consumes ground wild mushrooms that the Khansama used to prepare the soup, following which Umesh reveals his identity to the crowd along with the elaborate plan of Swathi’s to make him appear to be her husband.
Well, before the police can do anything, Umesh ends up coughing blood due to the excess consumption of mushrooms, as they were fatal, following which the police put Umesh into the car to rush him to the hospital, and Swathi uses the commotion to plan her escape but fails, so she kills herself by jumping off a cliff.
Meanwhile, Umesh’s body also disappears from the police car, and the film ends with the two lovers reuniting in a bus going away from Mainjur, but in a twist, it gets revealed that the couple has died, and the people found in the bus are the spirits of the couple, leaving the realm of the living and entering the dead, as we witness Thupalli sitting at the top of the bus.
The film ends with the two lovers dying and reuniting with each other in the world of the dead, even though neither of them is caught for their crimes.
