The release date for Gerard Johnstone’s upcoming sci-fi thriller with horror undertones M3GAN is here! And we’re sharing everything we managed to scoop from the web with you. That way, after you read this post, you get a whole grasp of the movie, its premise, and when it will drop. That way, you can buy the tickets calmly and just sit down, eat your popcorn, and drink your soda when the movie premieres.
As stated earlier, M3GAN is a sci-fi horror thriller directed by Gerard Johnstone based upon a script by Akela Cooper and a story by James Wan —you may remember his name because he’s the co-creator of the popular slasher film series “Saw” and The Conjuring Universe. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. And let’s dig deep into M3GAN without further ado. Let’s begin!
What Is M3GAN?
The plot revolves around Gemma (Allison Williams), a genius roboticist at a toy manufacturer who utilizes artificial intelligence to create M3GAN, a life-like doll meant to be a child’s best friend and a parent’s best ally. Gemma enlists the services of the M3GAN prototype after receiving guardianship of her orphan niece suddenly – a decision with unthinkable ramifications.
On James Wan’s Horror Trajectory
Coming from James Wan, we can expect an unsettlingly real doll with some murderous instincts fueled by artificial intelligence. Also, some humans are victimized and poised to save themselves from being terrorized by that horrid creation. Out of James Wan’s ideas —the man who brought us Saw— many things, scary things can come out!
We’re just going to have to wait and see when the movie premieres! Is it going to be Chucky 2.0 or something else? With movies like Annabelle, this upcoming title has a high bar to rival. Also, did anyone notice James Wan’s fascination with evil toys? After all, Saw’s little character is a nasty doll! So, if you get scared easily, avoid this one, you might get nightmares. Wan is one of the top names when it comes to horror slasher films!
Cast
Leading the cast, we have Allison Williams —you might remember her from the 2017 movie “Get Out” in the role of Rose— playing Gemma. Then, we have Ronny Chieng and Violet McGraw in some uncredited roles. Also, Jenna Davies —from Netflix’s Treehouse Detectives— and Kimberley Crossman will both voice M3GAN. And Brian Jordan Alvarez —you may remember him as “Wesley” in Jane The Virgin— will play Cole. Additionally, in the cast, there’s Arlo Green playing Ryan and Jen Van Epps playing Tess. And rounding up the cast, we have Stephane Garneau-Monten and Michael Saccente.
Who Is Behind M3GAN?
Blumhouse Productions —they produced The Purge and Paranormal Activity— coupled with Atomic Monster Productions —founded by James Wan and the production company behind Annabelle: Creation and Mortal Kombat— teamed up with Jason Blum —he produced “The Invisible Man— Michael Clear, James Wan, Couper Samuelson, and actress Allison Williams under the direction of Gerard Johnstone. He’s credited with doing “Housebound”— in this first feature film with a script by Akela Cooper —you might recognize her work from productions like “Luke Cage,” “The Nun 2″ and Malignant”.
Wan surely teamed up with some good names for this movie. And the poster was teased at CinemaCon 2022 just recently. Filming for this flick began back in July 2021, and it is currently in post-production. Moreover, Universal Pictures has the task of distributing it. And the movie was filmed in Los Angeles, California, and New Zealand.
