Ronald D. Moore’s historical drama, the Outlander series, has been renewed for a penultimate 7th season, which premiered this week. With the storyline being based on the seventh book, An Echo in the Bone, this season will likely release its episodes in two parts to cover the entirety of the Diana Gabaldon book.
First seen on television on August 9th, 2014, Outlander was created as a historical romance and action series based on Diana Gabaldon’s books that go by the same name. When it first premiered on Starz, it was met with good reception, mainly as 2014 was the time when historical movies and TV shows involving romance were quite successful. The plot of Outlander centers around Claire Randall and Jamie Fraser, two people that end up falling in love with each other across timelines. After being transported to the year 1743 from 1945, Claire married one of the Highlanders named Jamie Fraser.
Although Claire first does it out of necessity, she eventually falls in love with Jamie, and the duo begins their life together in the Kingdom of France. Over the years, the storyline of Outlanders has gotten much more complex but just as interesting too. This is the reason new seasons were released each year, with Starz announcing that Outlander has been renewed for up until 8 seasons. The 7th season of Outlander premiered on June 16th, 2023.
The main cast members of Outlander over the years have been Caitriona Balfe as Claire Fraser & Sam Heughan in the role of James Fraser. The 7th season of Outlander will be featuring actors such as Graham McTavish in the role of Dougal MacKenzie, Lotte Verbeek in the plays Gillian Edgars, Steven Cree stars as Ian Murray, and Neill Hudson plays the role of Laoghaire MacKenzie.

In the previous season of Outlander, which premiered on March 6th, 2022, the 8-episode season was able to cover the contents of the book “A Breath of Snow and Ashes“. As Political situations get more problematic, the Frasers try and make a peaceful living away from this chaos. Jamie, Claire, Brianna, and Roger now call North Carolina their home.
Despite wanting to live the low-key life, Jamie Fraser faces a serious choice that could threaten not only his but his family’s life. On one side, he has to comply with the oath he had given to the British Crown, while on the other lies his freedom from his past. The Browns come up with a new group called the Committee of Safety that does nothing but protect someone and instead causes more trouble for the Frasers as it leads to a division between the different communities.
Another threat that the peace and harmony on the ridge faces are the Christies since they decided to move to the Ridge. This family being on the Ridge causes Jamie to remember the time when he was in the Ardsmuir prison. Tom Christie’s daughter, Malva Christie, first befriends Claire and tries to form a connection with her, but as the show goes on, we see that Malva announces her pregnancy out of nowhere, and what’s even more outrageous is that she reveals the father was Jamie. The 6th season shows the Frasers facing pressure from both the Browns and the Christies.
