A high school teen drama focusing on how a young Indian-American girl does her best to become the ‘hot-thing’ at her school after a year of being a sloppy mess has taken over the young fans, and rightfully so. The comedy series titled Never Have I Ever is about a girl named Devi who, after a year of mourning over her father’s death, decides it best to pack it up and move on with her life.
But living with a traditional Indian family and being the first generation Indian-American kid does not make things easier for her, and soon all kinds of struggles and tough life decisions are thrown her way. Not long after the release of the first season, the show managed to become a fan favorite and has maintained its fanbase since.
The series is a proud creation of Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher and stars actress Maitreyi Ramakrishnan in the role of the hormonal high schooler struggling to make all the right decisions, Devi Vishwakumar, Poorna Jagannathan as Devi’s mother who strongly advocates for tough parenting, Richa Moorjani as Kamala Nandiwadal, Devi’s cousin who represents every Indian mother’s dream daughter, Darren Barnet as Paxton Hall-Yoshida, and Jaren Lewison as Ben Gross, both playing Devi’s love interests in the show.
The series released its first season in 2020 and has recently released its fourth season successfully. Since its release, it has received much praise for representing an authentic version of South Asian culture and for unapologetically embracing South Indian culture. Creator Mindy Kaling revealed that the show may or may not be based on her own teenage life when she lived in the States as a first-generation Indian-American.
Never Have I Ever Season 4: Plot
The makers of the show have confirmed that season four will be the final one and that fans will have to wrap up their emotions with the final episode of the show. Over the seasons, we have seen the fifteen-year-old Devi grow, rebel, and be a bad friend but also a good one, all the while making the dumbest mistakes ever. While some call her out for being a bad person overall, many realize that she is supposed to be an average fifteen years old with a lot of time to explore life and grow into a decent human being and get her moral compass straight.
This season has Devi deciding which college she wants to go to while she finally sleeps with Ben, and yes, Paxton is also back in the frame. Just like all the other seasons, this time too, it seems that Devi cannot catch a break and that chaos is the only constant in her life. The season will end with their final school year coming to an end, and we will not be seeing Devi and her friends entering their college life, as per Kaling’s wishes.
