HBO has announced the release date for its new original series, Get Millie Black. The show comes from Marlon James, who is a Booker Prize-winning author.
This five-episode series will air before the end of the year. It stars Tamara Lawrance, known for The Silent Twins, and Joe Dempsie, famous for Game of Thrones. The series will also be available for streaming on Max.
The story follows Millie-Jean Black, played by Lawrance. She is an ex-Scotland Yard detective who returns to Kingston. Millie-Jean works on a case about a missing person.
This case leads her to various side quests. These challenges test her sanity and question whether she can complete her job. Alongside her is Luke Holborn, played by Dempsie. He is a British detective, and his major investigation intersects with Millie’s.
HBO first announced Get Millie Black in 2021. Alongside Lawrance and Dempsie, the series will feature Gershwyn Eustache Jnr, known for The Gentlemen, and Chyna McQueen.
The executive producers of the show are Marlon James, Jami O’Brien, Simon Maxwell, and Leopoldo Gout. Tanya Hamilton, who worked on Scream: The TV Series, is the lead director.
Who is Marlon James?
Marlon James is a well-known Jamaican writer. He has published five books. Some of his notable works are The Book of the Night Women, A Brief History of Seven Killings, and his latest book, Moon Witch, Spider King.
His fantasy novel, Black Leopard, Red Wolf, became a New York Times bestseller in 2019 and won the American Book Award in 2020.
Besides writing, James co-hosts a podcast with his editor at Penguin Random House. The podcast is called Read Dead People. In the show, they talk about fictional works by authors who have passed away and share their opinions.
Get Millie Black marks James’ first series for television. The show will air on HBO and also on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom. James expressed his excitement about the series in a Warner Bros press release.
