Square Enix has released a brand-new trailer for Final Fantasy Resonance, giving fans another look at the upcoming HD-2D RPG ahead of its October 22, 2026 launch on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch.
The latest footage expands on the game’s nostalgic presentation while highlighting its modern visuals, strategic combat, and familiar Final Fantasy elements. The trailer was shared following the game’s original reveal during the June Nintendo Direct and offers a closer look at gameplay as anticipation continues to build.
New trailer highlights HD-2D world and classic Final Fantasy gameplay
The newly released trailer showcases the game’s signature HD-2D art style, blending detailed pixel art with dynamic camera angles and 3D environments. According to Square Enix, Final Fantasy Resonance imagines how the series might have evolved had it continued building on its classic pixel-art roots instead of transitioning to fully 3D graphics. The project is also the first main Final Fantasy title to fully embrace the HD-2D visual style.
Players will journey through a world filled with familiar series staples, including crystals, airships, espers, and moogles. The story follows companions connected by fate as they battle a mysterious force threatening the world while calling upon “Visions”—echoes of legendary Final Fantasy heroes—to aid them in combat.
Strategic turn-based battles remain at the heart of the experience. Players can exploit enemy weaknesses to stagger opponents, earn additional turns, and unleash powerful Resonance attacks. Beyond the main story, optional content includes encounters with Gilgamesh, battles inside the Chamber of Arms, a monster-filled Colosseum, and a confrontation with the iconic Ultima Weapon.
Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy Resonance launches on October 22, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, and Steam, with the Steam version arriving one day later in some regions. The official announcement was first made during the June Nintendo Direct, with the latest trailer serving as a fresh look at the game ahead of release.
