Mike O’Malley‘s new family sitcom titled Extended Family is a show that follows the life story of a divorced couple who have decided to continue being present in each other’s lives as good friends, all while co-parenting the kids together.
The producers of this comedy series have brought together Jon Cryer in the role of Jim Kearney, Abigail Spencer in the role of Julia Mariano, Jim’s ex-wife, Donald Faison in the role of Trey Schultz, Lenny Clarke in the role of Henry Kearney, Fin Sweeney in the role of Jimmy Jr., and finally, Sofia Capanna in the role of the former couple’s daughter, Grace.
The show is going to be a comedy revolving entirely around a chaotic family, all trying to get their act together and make things work. Adding a hilariously modern twist to family relationships, the show’s producers have set out to discover just how different the lives of separated couples would be like while trying to parent the children together.
With a cast as talented as that of this show, we do not doubt its ability to pull off this modern plot. The makers of the show, Eddie Gorodetsky, is known to have been one of the minds who were at work for Dharma & Greg and Two and a Half Men, whereas Mike can be spotted on camera in shows like Glee and Yes, Dear.
All of these are comedy shows that have been appreciated by critics and fans at some point, which, honestly, adds more trust to this new work of theirs. If you are curious about the show and want to know about it in depth, then continue reading till the end.
The Plot
From what has been revealed about the show, we know that it is almost entirely set around one family, and this family is slightly different than the rest. Here we have a couple who, after years of being married and having kids together, decided they might not be the one for each other.
Having reached this decision together, this couple, Jim and Julia, decide to separate and get a divorce. They might have separated, but they do not hate each other. Some differences could not be resolved, which eventually led them to remain on good terms even after their divorce and continue raising their kids together.
They raise their kids in their family house, so the kids have a sense of stability, and it is the parents who take turns being with them. But just when you thought there could be no issues between the two, since everything else was just that sorted, things take a sharp turn.
With the entry of Trey, the owner of Jim’s favorite sports team in the picture. The charming man can quickly get Julia’s attention, winning her heart and even getting engaged to her. This slightly complicates their modern family and relationship dynamics, thus sending them on yet another journey to figure out how things should be.
It is going to be chaotic, and it is going to be hilarious, so read till the end to know more about the show so that you do not miss out on their journey.
