The Mother of Dragons, Emilia Clarke, is once again in the spotlight. This afternoon, it was announced that Clarke will star in a new spy thriller series with the working title Ponies. The series has already been given a straight-to-series order by Peacock within the same hour of the announcement.
Ponies is set in Moscow during the Cold War. Clarke will play a secretary at the American Embassy named Bea. Bea’s husband dies mysteriously while in the USSR. She teams up with Twila, another widowed secretary, to become CIA operatives and find out the truth about their husbands’ deaths.
Bea is described as an “over-educated” daughter of Soviet immigrants, while Twila is a tough “small-town girl.” No casting announcements have been made for Twila’s role yet.
Clarke is also credited as an executive producer for Ponies. Even though the show is a thriller, it has some comedic talent involved.
David Iserson, known for his work on Saturday Night Live and New Girl, and Susanna Fogel, who co-wrote Booksmart and directed The Spy Who Dumped Me, are the co-creators. Iserson will be the showrunner, and Fogel will direct. It is not yet clear if the show will have a serious tone or include some of their trademark humor.
What else is on Emilia Clarke’s plate?
The coming year is set to be busy for Clarke, who is also taking a role in the upcoming Prime Video crime drama Criminal. In Criminal, she will play Mallory, a smart armed robber who can handle tough situations. Clarke will also appear alongside Natalie Portman in the 2025 animated comedy The Twits, based on Roald Dahl’s novel.
Since Ponies just received its series order, Clarke’s fans will have to wait for an official release date. But fans can be sure that Clarke will continue to appear on television screens for a long time.
