Dune Awakening Releases New Client Update to Reduce PSO Stutters

Dune: Awakening developer Funcom has rolled out a new client update aimed at addressing one of the game’s persistent performance issues. In a post shared on the game’s official X account, the studio announced that it has introduced

“some changes to tackle PSO stutters through a new client version,”

adding that the update

“should have a big impact on overall stutters in the game.”

Players are encouraged to update to the latest game client as soon as possible to benefit from the improvements.

The developer also included a reminder for Steam users who may not immediately see the update. According to the official post,

“Please make sure to update your game client. Remember to restart your Steam client if the download does not appear!”

The announcement comes as Funcom continues to optimize the survival MMO, with recent development updates highlighting work on performance improvements that will also support the game’s single-player experience.

Funcom targets PSO stutters with the latest Dune: Awakening client version

PSO, or Pipeline State Object, stutters are a common performance issue in modern PC games. They typically occur when shaders or graphics pipelines are compiled during gameplay, resulting in brief frame drops or noticeable hitches.

The update is relatively straightforward for players. After downloading the latest client, anyone who does not see the patch available through Steam should restart the Steam application so the download can appear correctly, as advised in the official announcement.

Latest development work also focuses on broader performance improvements

The PSO stutter fix arrives alongside Funcom’s broader optimization efforts detailed in a recent developer blog. While the studio primarily discussed the technical work behind Dune: Awakening’s upcoming single-player mode, it also confirmed that many of those engineering improvements will benefit the game as a whole.

According to Funcom, adapting the multiplayer-focused game for solo play required major changes to database systems, client-side processing, physics loading, and memory management. The studio also noted that these performance optimizations and UI improvements will improve the experience for existing multiplayer players as development continues.
