What Do Dreams Mean In MCU?

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness opened up with Strange having a dream. He as Defender Strange attempted to save America Chavez from a demon who was onto her because of her powers of traveling across the multiverse.

Defender Strange died turned on Chavez and died protecting the multiverse as MCU’s Strange woke up watching him in his dream. The dream became reality when America Chavez made her way to Earth-616 and met Strange and Wong. She came to tell that whatever Strange saw in his dreams did happen but in an alternate universe.

To prove further, America Chavez had also brought the dead body of the alternate universe’s Doctor Strange as in Defender Strange. She also clarified that Wong’s dream which sees a clown chasing him wearing no clothes is also true.

Further into the movie, when Wanda sent Doctor Strange and Christine to a destroyed universe, Strange came across a darker variant of his. This variant had messed a lot with the Darkhold. This resulted in him destroying his own universe with only him alive at the Sanctum Sanctorum. The Darker version of Strange came to reveal that all of the dreams Strange had of him falling are a result of him killing the alternate universe’s Strange.

Apart from Strange, Wanda was probably the first to realize this. The Darkhold corrupted Wanda and also dreamt of her kids time and again. That only made her more sinister. This made her dream walk to chase America Chavez. So that she can use her to travel to another universe to reunite with her kids again.

What Would Dreams Mean For The Future Of MCU?

For now, it can be speculated that every dream a major MCU character has actually happened somewhere in an alternate universe. It may also suggest the dreams Tony Stark had prior to Infinity War. Watching Thanos kill the Avengers is somewhere true. In an alternate universe, Thanos was victorious and the Avengers were not able to do anything about it.

Fast forward to Infinity War, there is another mention of a dream. Tony told Pepper about having a dream where they had a child. They named her after Pepper’s eccentric uncle Morgan. The dream did come true but this also implies that what Tony saw was a peek into an alternate universe.

Thus all of these speculations make MCU a far terrifying and more wilder universe now. Especially with the fact that dreams can be dreams but at the same time nightmares if we take Wanda’s case. They turned her into a monster wreaking havoc across multiple universes. With Marvel aiming to explore the multiverse, the dreams could further play a major role in the upcoming events of the wider universe which may shape the MCU moving on.
