Based on the webtoon made by Kim Bo-tong, D.P. is a Netflix K-drama that revolves around Private Ahn Jun-Ho and Corporal Han Ho-yell as they band together to catch what the army calls “Deserters,” soldiers who’ve given up their responsibilities before their term was up.
Most of the plot is the same as the webtoon, asides from the fact that Jun-ho is a private in the series, a change that was made to make him seem more relatable and normal. Han Jun-hee, the director who has worked on movies like Once In A Summer and BABO, serves as the main director for D.P. too.
The cast of D.P. consists of well-known K-drama faces like Jung Hae-in in the role of Private Ahn Joon-ho, Koo Kyo-hwan as Corporal Han Ho-yeol, Kim Sung-kyun plays the role of Sergeant Park Beom-gu and Son Suk-ku portrays Captain Im Ji-stop.
D.P. Season 2: What Happens In The Final Episode?
As we reach the final episode of the series, we see that Jun-ho has the true USB with all of the footage of bullying that took place on Army grounds. Han Ho-yeol finally takes his delayed discharge, giving him a chance to meet Gu Ja-woon without any consequences. When he arrives at the court, Ho-Yeol sees that many officers are guarding it.
The voice recording from Colonel Yang Du-gwan arrives, but it’s not what everyone was expecting. The commander clearly says that he was pressured by General Gu Ja-woon into ignoring the investigation and hiding stuff that could damage the reputation of the services.
To stop the USB from reaching every social media platform, Han Ho-yeol asks for the arrest warrants and operations against Jun Ho to be stopped. However, right as the arrest warrants are taken back, Jun-ho escapes from the car by crashing it. This causes Beom-gu to stop Han Ho-yeol from returning the USB to Gu Ja-won.
The day of the court hearing arrives, and Kim Ru-ri is silenced, making Seo-eun’s key witness step down from providing the true testimony. Ji-Seop shows up at the court too, and assures Seo-eun that they still have the power to turn the tide in their favor as the USB will soon arrive during the hearing.
Gu Ja-won puts up an intense argument against Seo-eun, turning the favor of the jury towards himself. Jun-ho arrives at the back entrance of the court but is stopped by Han-yeol, who wants to put him in custody. Park Sung-woo is also at the entrance, and a fight erupts between the three.
Lim Ji-shop is called to be a witness, and he presents a logical speech that moves the hearts of everyone listening to it.
From the higher-ups not responding on time to the subpar systems that exist within the military, he talks about all of these issues. Just as Gu Ja-won claims Ji-seop’s words are unsubstantial, the evidence finally arrives.
In a surprising twist, the USB is not with Jun-Ho or back at the locker; it turns out to be with Beom-gu, who immediately presents it to the court.
Showing the dark side of the services isn’t an easy task, despite the evidence. The court delays the hearing, making both sides end up in a tie. Both Jun-ho and Han-yeol break down in tears after seeing that Beom-gu was arrested.
D.P. Season 2: Ending Explained
This season of D.P. ends with Beom-gu being arrested and the civilians within the military ending up with incomplete justice. Neither was the judgment going to harm them in any way or make things better, but the higher-ups are sure to keep an eye out for bullying now that they know it can escalate to something much more problematic real quick.
Ji-ho and the others visit Beom-gu in jail and bring a warm meal for him, and that’s when Beom-gu requests Lim Ji-seop to take good care of the remaining military boys who are going to enroll just to protect their country.
Han Ho-yeol’s military service comes to an end, and he’s discharged, while Ahn Joon-Ho would have to spend another whole year before he is discharged as well.
After the credits, when he returns to the Military base, Jun-ho is summoned by a visitor that wants to meet him. It turns out to be none other than Suk-bong, who is now fully recovered and conscious. Needless to say, Jun-ho is glad to see Suk-bong again.
With the way season 2 of this Jung Hae-in drama ended, it’s sure that this isn’t the last we’ll see of his character. The post-credits scene hinted towards a positive end for victims of military bullying, as Jo Suk-bong was alive and well. This makes him a powerful pawn in the fight against the harsh environment of military service.
In the next season of D.P., we may see Jun-ho get back into the fight while also solving more deserter cases. Ji-shop, Jun-ho, and Seo-eun could team up once again and battle the injustice they faced in the court hearing of season 2.
For now, the ending of D.P. season 2 has left us on a bittersweet note, where Jun-ho, Ho-yeol, and the others are yet to get the justice they deserve. Things within the military will be better than before since the USB’s evidence did bring to light the atrocities that happened on the base.
All seasons of D.P. will be available to watch on Netflix.
