In August of 2021, CM Punk walked into the arena AEW, becoming one of the biggest signings in the company’s history. Cut to the future. On May 29, 2022, we saw CM Punk winning the AEW World Heavyweight Title at Double Or Nothing. Unfortunately, the run CM Punk promised has met with a bump in the road. CM Punk confirms being injured on the June 3, 2022, edition of AEW Rampage as he officially relinquished the World Title.
CM Punk walked to the ring to a heartbreaking announcement. There was good news as well as bad news. While the bad news over here broke every other person’s heart in the arena as Punk came to announce that he needed surgery. The good news brought some hope. Punk confirmed that it’s just a bump in the road. He can still wrestle in the future.
CM Punk Relinquishes The World Title: The Future Of The Championship
With tears in his eyes, CM Punk promised the wheels hadn’t fallen off. He has come back from worse and would return. Coming to the AEW World Title, CM Punk came to reveal that he had a talk with Tony Khan before walking into the ring.
Punk told Tony that he didn’t want to hold this place up. There is a pool of talent back there in the locker room. They deserve every bit of this championship. Punk came forward to name talents such as Bryan Danielson and former AEW World Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley from the Blackpool Combat Club.
CM Punk told Tony that he was relinquishing the title. Tony Khan further believed in Punk that this is a bump in the road. He promised to come back bigger and prove to the world why he was the Best In The World.
While CM Punk being injured will be out of the in-ring action, he will still continue to be the AEW World Heavyweight Champion. Until then, an interim World Champion will be crowned whom Punk will challenge the day he comes back to the ring.
