The publisher of Berserk, Hakusensha, has addressed a fan-made animation currently in development, clarifying that it is not authorized by the copyright holders.
In an official statement posted on Berserk’s X/Twitter account, the publisher emphasized that the animation, titled Berserk: The Black Swordsman, has not received approval from Miura Kentarou (Studio Gaga) and that its promotional videos are being displayed without permission.
Hakusensha’s Official Statement on Fan Project
The fan-made adaptation began pre-production in 2023 and has generated buzz among fans disappointed with previous official adaptations. While its creators describe it as a “passion project” and encourage support for the official manga and anime, they have not publicly addressed copyright concerns.
The statement from Hakusensha makes it clear that any Berserk adaptation requires official authorization from the copyright holders.
Despite multiple anime adaptations, Berserk has yet to receive a universally praised version, leading to strong interest in the fan-made project. The manga continues under Studio Gaga, helmed by Kentaro Miura’s close friend Koji Mori, though it is currently on hiatus following Miura’s passing in 2021. The unauthorized animation has reignited discussions about Berserk’s future in anime form.
