The last couple of episodes of Below Deck Down Under were not only a comedy of errors for the crew, a botched dinner service, and the employees more focused on sexytime than working, but that sort of was moved out of the way after Captain Jason got his ducks in a row, they had a time off, got a nice tipping from a group of moms with their kids for a single day service and that made things sort of go in a cool kind of way.
But now, with these two episodes, the stage is set for the Northern Sun to wrap things up as they share their few final moments with us; that doesn’t mean there’s not going to be any drama, because drama we’ll have, but let’s get that out of the way and get into this nitty-gritty explanation of Below Deck Down Under’s Season 2 last couple of episodes.
Below Deck Down Under Season 2 Episode 12 & 13 Recap
The previous episode’s suspenseful ending finds meaning as Adam’s colossal anchor mishap takes center stage. Captain Jason grapples with the decision to retain an unreliable deckhand. While no harm resulted, the anchor incident casts doubt on Adam’s suitability. Adam recounts the mishap to João, attributing the mistake to his misconception of yacht anchor protocol versus commercial vessels. Despite six charters, Adam’s lack of understanding of yacht regulations remains evident.
Captain Jason vents his frustration to João about Adam’s consistent blunders. João defends Adam, praising his positive attitude and potential to improve. Surprisingly, Jason considers firing Adam even as João supports him. Guests embark on a snorkeling excursion, enabling Margot and João’s connection. Margot references Tzarina, revealing her anger at Tzarina’s remarks about João. Differing accounts of past events between João and Tzarina beg for the friend’s perspective.
The evening’s dinner theme draws inspiration from Slim Aarons’ photography, showcasing socialites from the ’60s and ’70s. Guests admire Harry, prompting playful discussions about his romantic prospects. Jason and João continue their dialogue about the anchor mishap. Jason stresses safety concerns, highlighting Adam’s lack of awareness and experience. This ironic twist in safety advocate Adam’s role adds complexity to the situation.
João assists Tzarina, revealing her mixed signals about relationships. Their flirtation fuels speculation about future developments. Culver’s tendency to prioritize eating and disregard work strains his relations with the team. A Mediterranean job offer intensifies the connection between Culver and Jaimee.
Margot’s frustration grows as Harry distances himself post-confession. Harry’s measured response contrasts with Margot’s expectations. The following night’s white party theme remains uneventful, whereas deck team tensions escalate. Culver’s disregard for his responsibilities clashes with João’s insistence on promptness.
Culver accepts a Mediterranean job offer and suggests Jaimee as a suitable crew member. His intentions seem driven by personal interests. Culver’s increasing laziness sparks frustration within the team. Margot’s annoyance with Harry’s behavior compounds after her confession. The final breakfast introduces an unconventional dress code. Jason reluctantly complies, showcasing his humor and willingness to engage with guests.
Culver’s obsession with food and temperamental behavior further strain relations. João voices his frustration with Culver’s attitude. Adam’s recurring issues prompt João to advocate for him over Culver, whom he deems unfit for the team. Consequently, here’s when Jason comes in, and he decides to make a priority out of the Adam problem, but he has more on his plate as the head honcho must also cover Culver, who’s been acting like a loose cannon.
The episode reveals the underlying tensions and dynamics within the crew, centered around Adam’s critical mistake. Jason wrestles with leadership choices as personal connections and conflicts unravel. Looking at how this season is unfolding, we’re being set up for some sort of a shift as the team navigates through challenges, ultimately leading to imminent resolutions.

As Adam bids his farewell, a bittersweet blend of sadness and respect permeates the air. After thorough consultations with João and securing a suitable replacement, Captain Jason reluctantly comes to the decision to part ways with Adam. During the crew’s farewell, Adam’s unmistakable disappointment is palpable; however, he departs with a deep sense of gratitude for the invaluable experience. The crew’s genuine affection for him radiates, culminating in a heartfelt group hug that seals his departure.
Despite occasional moments of annoyance, Adam’s departure tugs at the heartstrings of those left behind. Amidst the season’s challenges with male crew members, Adam’s genuine kindness and intentions make his exit poignant.
Shifting focus, the departing guests prove pleasantly surprising, contradicting earlier apprehensions. Their departure gifts a $15,000 tip, a commendable but not exceptional sum. Aesha’s effort in persuading Jason to embrace Budgie Smugglers earns her the coveted disco helmet.
Meanwhile, João’s disdain for Culver’s lackluster work ethic endures. João confronts Culver, highlighting the importance of diligence. An engaging montage captures their clashing viewpoints, adding a touch of humor to their feud.
Captain Jason addresses Culver’s sluggishness, prompting a defensive response. Culver’s claim of “miscommunication” rings hollow, given the persistent pattern of disregarding instructions in favor of personal pursuits.
Aesha’s bold move involves temporarily promoting Margot to second stew for the upcoming charter. Jaimee’s acquiescence is laced with hints of future tension between her and Aesha, signaling the potential for future intra-crew drama. A night out unfolds predictably, with drinks, dancing, and commonplace job gripes. Culver’s conversation with Aesha reveals his frustration at João’s reprimand while revealing his one-sided affection for Jaimee.
Back on the boat, Culver’s FaceTime call with his mother touches on his grievances with João. Meanwhile, Jaimee’s introduction to Culver’s mother echoes a previous scenario with Tzarina, raising questions about Culver’s attachment to his family.
João and Tzarina’s closeness sparks speculation about their budding romance. Tzarina’s conflicting feelings, symbolized by angel and devil analogies, contribute to the uncertainty of their relationship’s future.
Aesha is introduced to a familiar face with the arrival of a new lead deckhand named Luka. As he joins the squad, Luka’s ties with crew members spark intrigue, and his attractiveness and prior associations pique interest.
The fact that the new visitors are real estate developers searching for some downtime causes some stress for the staff, but that stress cools off as they are not the kind of party-hardy, make-a-mess kind of guests; all they want are some drinks and beach fun that Joao takes care off by taking the guests snorkeling.
We now cover Margot; she’s having trouble delivering guests’ drinks, who are a tad complex to satisfy. To cope, Margot has a few drinks herself on the job. Then, this episode ends abruptly as tensions rise when a guest has a few medical issues, casting doubt on the future: What could’ve it been? Too much drinking? Food allergies? Who knows?
If we cover Adam’s leaving the boat, that’s a bit of a drama bomb that dropped and caused a lot of emotional fallout. And makes everyone wonder if his personality traits caused that departure.

Below Deck Down Under Season 2 Episode 12 & 13 Review
Below Deck Down Under is more about —as its name implies what goes on below deck— than the service provided for the guests. We see a lot of drama; we see Margot getting courted, we see Adam screwing up, leading him to leave the boat, and we see how Captain Jason just wants to end the season.
If we cover Tzarina, who’s stuck between her pro duties and love life, that’s another thing, but all in all, the season has had its ups and downs, and it’s been quite funny to watch if you ask me.
