Back From The Brink is the live-action adaptation of a novel written by Jiu Lu Fei Xiang titled Hu Xin, which roughly translates to “protect your heart.” The Chinese drama releases episodes every day, and starring actors like Neo Hou and Zhou Ye as the protagonists who show great chemistry on set, it is one binge-worthy show you wouldn’t want to miss out on.
The story revolves around Tian Yao, an ancient dragon who had been gravely betrayed by his loved one, in search of all the dismembered body parts and dragon scales she had stripped him of. He meets Yan Hui, who promises to help him in his search, and as the two of them form an alliance, they realize their affection for one another is deeper than mere friendship.
Synopsis
Tian Yao, our protagonist, is the manifestation of a dragon demon who’s loved for centuries and had once fallen in love with a woman. However, this woman later turned out to be a backstabber, and he was finally deceived by her. In an effort to deprive him of his power-enhancing dragon bones, she took advantage of his fondness for her by dismembering him and hiding the bones in a variety of places.
Though brokenhearted by his lover’s betrayal, his spirit was luckily able to flee from her trap. He has now been reborn in an alternate form and is attempting to locate his bones in order to reclaim his power. After this incident, Tian Yao promised never to fall in love once more.
Tian Yao later crosses paths with Yan Hui and finds out that she is in possession of a unique seal that can help him regain his former self. He believed that the abilities of this seal might help him to recover the vital bones he had lost. At first, he holds her hostage because she refuses to assist him or participate in his search.
However, the two of them eventually begin to form a friendship despite her initial vain attempts to flee. Could their relationship eventually develop into love as they work to fulfill Tian Yao’s quest?
