In case you haven’t had enough Westeros or Game of Thrones yet, HBO is reportedly developing a new series set in the world created by novelist George R. R. Martin, according to a report issued by THR this evening. The long-held idea of Aegon’s Conquest is allegedly at the centre of the endeavour.
The source claims that HBO is working with highly sought-after writer Mattson Tomlin, who is most known for his unseen work on Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Tomlin will co-write The Batman Part II, the follow-up to the 2022 blockbuster. Using a sword emoji in his Twitter response, Tomlin personally verified the news.
In addition, Tomlin co-wrote the action comic adaptation BRZRKR starring Keanu Reeves and the highly anticipated video game adaption Mega Man.
So far, it has produced two television shows: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, which is set to start production this year, and House of the Dragon, a prequel series to Game of Thrones that would be a successor to this series. The latter is a Dunk and Egg story adaptation by Martin.
What Is The New Show About?
In the world of Martin Luther Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, “Aegon’s Conquest” refers to the historical occasion when House Targaryen, commanded by Aegon I Targaryen, popularly known as Aegon the Conqueror, united six of the seven kingdoms of Westeros.
Westeros was split up into several independent kingdoms before Aegon’s Conquest. Aegon Targaryen arrived on the continent with a small force, accompanied by his sister’s wives Visenya and Rhaenys.
But what made them formidable were the three dragons they possessed: Balerion, the Black Dread, the largest dragon ever seen, whose wings could cast entire towns into shadow; Rhaenys rode Meraxes; Visenya rode Vhagar; and these three dragons were crucial to their military victories.
Aegon conquered six of the kingdoms with a mix of military might, well-timed marriages, and the unstoppable power of his dragons. But the Kingdom of Dorne stood up to Aegon’s dominance, and a marriage alliance eventually brought the kingdom into the realm.
The Iron Throne, which represents the Targaryens’ dominion over Westeros, was made from the swords of Aegon’s vanquished adversaries and heated by dragonfire as a result of the Conquest.
In the US, Max is currently offering Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon for streaming. This summer, House of the Dragon will return for a second season.
