Ahead of the finale of American Idol Season 21, we had quite the show. It was a Disney-themed night, and what a night it was! A double elimination, and three lucky, talented, and aspiring performers move on to the grand finale of America’s favorite musical contest show.
We’re down to Wé Ani, Zachariah Smith, Colin Stough, Megan Danielle, and Iam Tongi. Last week’s show had actress and singer Sofia Carson as a mentor, and despite that, every contestant performed fan-favorite songs from Disney. The show must go on, and two of them needed to go home.
It’s almost incredible that American Idol’s six years after picked up so hard and with such fanfare, and as we make our way to the grand finale, we need to cover a little in depth of what happened in last week’s episode in our recap section. After a strong performance from all five contestants, the judges had to choose who moved on and who went home. It goes without saying that two of the most favored ones had to take the boot. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves and see what went down.
American Idol Season 21 Episode 19 Recap
When I say that this episode had a little bit of everything, it’s because it was Disney night, and like all things Disney, we had everyone at the Disneyland Resort, and it was a night to remember with performances from Sarah Bareilles and the Top 5 of Pinocchio’s “When You Wish Upon a Star,” to Halle Bailey’s standing ovation after The Little Mermaid’s “Part of Your World,” coupled with segments on the Lives and the Road to the finale of each one of the contestants.
First on stage was Wé Ani, performing Frozen IIs “Into The Unknown” and Hannah Montana’s “The Climb.” Then we had Zachariah Smith, who went on stage to perform The Lion King’s “I Just Can’t-Wait to be King” and Cars’ “Life is a Highway.” Third in line was Colin Stough, who also performed another song from Cars, “Real Gone, and Pete’s Dragon, “Nobody Knows.”
The fourth person on stage was Megan Danielle, performing “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil’s “You Can’t Stop the Girl” and Onward’s “Carried Me With You,” and last but not least was Iam Tongi, who sang “Lava” and Guardians of the Galaxy’s “Father and Son.” After all, was sung and done, the public spoke, and so did the judges, sending home We Ani and Zachariah Smith, leaving us with the final three of American Idol Season 21.
