Air Disasters Season 20 Episode 7: Recap
The series focuses on the dramatization of a real-life crisis that occurred with passengers in the sky while traveling by airplane. The series tells the story of passengers’ experience through a series of featured interviews of investigators, aviation experts, eyewitness testimony, cockpit recorded voice, and imagery generated by computer.
The series’ first episode witnessed the Air disasters from planes like American Airlines Flight 77 and TWA Jet Aircraft 800 that triggered a swarm of coverage from the media. This incident led to the airport’s increasing security measures and high-profile investigations.
The previous episode witnessed highly trained pilots of known Airlines failing to land a plane correctly. The previous episode starts in the early hours of the morning on the Indonesia Island of Java with a Boeing 737 flying high in the sky with the Garuda Flight 200’s crew preparing to land.
The flight had 133 passengers onboard, nearing the end of their journey on Garuda Indonesia from the Indonesian capital of Jakarta to the city of Yogyakarta. The flight gets into an accident with 15 minutes remaining in a touchdown and Captain Muhammad Marwoto Komar briefing his co-pilot with the last-minute details for a safe landing.
The ATC gives a clear signal to the pilot to land the plane on runway zero niner. With the runway in sight and just above 3000 Km from the ground, the passengers began to notice something being wrong with the plane due to its speed being faster than it should have been near the ground.
The pilots failed to control the plane, thus causing a crash as the airplane landed off the runway in a swampy rice field. The passengers struggle to get out of the burning plane while the firefighters struggle to reach the rice field in time. The risk lies in the fact that if the fuel pump gets ignited, the plane will end up exploding and killing all passengers.
The passengers finally make their escape after the exit game is opened by two of their fellow passengers. The incident led to the death of 21 passengers on board with the cabin crew. After the crash, the aviation investigators begin their investigation to know the reason behind the crash as several factors can be behind it.
The episode witnessed two other crashes that happened while the pilots tried to land the plane in unfavorable weather conditions. Asiana Airlines Flight 214 crashed after nearing the end of their journey from Seoul to San Fransico.
The flight carrying 291 passengers and 14 crew members met with the crash while landing. Most of the passengers survived the crash, and the aviation investigators started their investigation to find the reason behind the crash. The episode ends with aviation investigators filing their end report for the reason behind the crash.
