GMM One’s latest romance series, Moonlight Chicken, starring the much-loved EarthMix duo, has started airing its episodes. Revolving around two men that happen to meet by chance and fall in love instantly, this show captures their unconventional love story that withstands all kinds of hardships.
The making of the show began in 2022, with the trailer being released a year before the show’s premiere. Moonlight Chicken started airing on February 8th, 2023, and is set to have around 8 episodes in its first season. The show comes from the director Aof Noppharnach Chaiwimol, who has also directed shows like Bad Buddy, A Tale Of Thousand Stars, and Our Skyy 2. He has served as the screenwriter for My Dear Loser.
Jojo Tichakorn Phukhaotong (Never let me go) and Best Kittisak Kongka (Bad Buddy) serve as the screenwriters for the show. Both of these directors/producers are known for their BL dramas that break all kinds of stereotypes attached to the persona of gay men.
Asides from the romance between the main characters, we also often see the situations and problems they and others around them deal with every day. The first episode has made it evident that Jim Jaruek Nueangna-am (Earth) and Wen (Mix) will not be having an easy relationship without any hurdles.
Moonlight Chicken: The Cast Of The Show
The Bangkok-born actor Earth Pirapat Watthanasetsiri is the protagonist of the show, along with Mix Sahaphap Wongratch. These two always create the perfect chemistry whenever they’re on screen, making Moonlight Chicken a show that could be just as popular as their other series. Earth has a bachelor’s degree in performing arts and is an alumnus of Srinakharinwirot University. Earth’s best works include A Tale Of Thousand Stars and Theory of Love.
Mix, whose real name is Sahaphap Wongratch, is still studying a veterinary science course and continues to be part of drama while pursuing his degree. He was born in Lampang Province and has been a part of a boy band named Cute Chef. The GMM TV and Mix partnership began in 2019, and he has starred in many of their shows, such as A Tale Of Thousand Stars and Vice Versa.
Other cast members of the show include Khaotung Thanawat Ratanakitpaisan (Kaipa), First Kanaphan Puitrakul (Alan), Gemini Norawit Titicharoenrak (Heart), and Fourth Nattawat Jirochtikul, All of these cast members are familiar faces for the BL World and have hit shows to their names. For instance, Gemini has been starring in My School President, a similar show that has managed to gain a rating of 8.5 on My Drama List.
Moonlight Chicken Episode 1: Recap
In the previous episodes, we see Jim and Wen meeting for the first time. Jim operates a late-night Diner that specializes in serving the tastiest Hainanese Chicken Rice. While serving a few customers, a very drunk Wen enters the diner and passes out on one of the tables. Despite Wen showing up out of nowhere, Jim helps him and offers warm food. This is where they start to develop feelings for each other.
After the interaction, a connection develops between the two that pulls them together even when Wen doesn’t want to leave his current partner. They start to meet more often at the diner and get closer while talking about how their days have been.
Throughout the show, we will see the relationship between Jim and Wen getting strong enough to the point that Wen’s current partner starts to notice the changes in Wen’s behavior. Asides from this couple, there will be many other characters who will also undergo development as the episodes are released. The complicated feelings between Wen and his husband make it hard for Wen to move on, but with Jim on his side, he can choose what he has always wished for.

The next episode of this BL drama will be aired on February 9th, 2023. New episodes of Moonlight Chicken are released on Wednesdays and Thursdays, each having a run time of 60-70 minutes.
