If you’re into dramas that revolve around the male protagonist having a rude personality with a soft side only for his love interest, you will love the Lebanese series Al Thaman. With a story based on Sarah and Zein, the show is a perfect example of the kind of romance that gets you blushing at your screens.
The show is made up of skilled actors, making Al Thaman have some of the best scenes of its genre. It first premiered on January 8, 2023, and has created a huge buzz around it even though it has just started airing its episodes.
The plot consists of a single mother, Sarah, hoping to find a good Architecture job that would help her earn enough money to continue the treatment of her son. Sarah is an ambitious and hardworking woman. Named Ibrahim, the son suffers from Blood Cancer, whose treatment is often expensive.
After managing to get an interview at the best Architecture company in Lebanon with the help of her friend, she is hopeful that she will get the job. Zein, the most strict and ruthless employee of the company, is set to interview her.
Despite having an admirable resume, Zein is reluctant to hire her. After Sarah lies that she isn’t married or has kids, Zein gives her the job. Once she starts working with them, Sarah proves her skills and even ends up winning an award for her work. Things get chaotic for Sarah and Zein when Zein finds out Sarah has been hiding a big part of her life from him.
Al Thaman’s Cast: The Actors Behind The Hit Series
The main protagonists of the show include the actors Razane Jammal and Basil Khaiat. You may recognize Basil from shows like Secrets Of The City and Big Dreams. He is originally from Syria and started acting at a young age. An alumnus of the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts, he has now become a part of the group of Syrian Actors that now dominate most of the Arabic shows.
He is married to Nahed Zaidan and has two children with her, named Isabelle and Shams. The character that Basil portrays is Zein, the strict yet attractive employee. He is rude and brutally honest but values hard work and skill beyond anything else.
We later see that he has had a past, which was the reason for his hate against women. The Sandman actress Razane Jammal plays the role of Sarah in the show. First starting her career when she was just 15 years old, Razane came into the world of cinema with her movies Carlos, Djinn, and then Paranormal, where she played the main character named Maggie.
Her role in Sandman is the character Lyta Hall. Sarah, the role she plays in Al Thaman, is a kind, intelligent and skilled architect who is optimistic about life. Her only aim is to live a good and peaceful life with her son, Ibrahim.
We later see that Sarah’s husband had been disowned by his father and that he might’ve passed away sometime later. Sarah and Zein’s characters contrast each other perfectly. Their chemistry on-screen has been appreciated by viewers all over the world.
Other cast members you might see in Al Thaman include Nicolas Mouawad, Sara Abi Kanaan, and Sabah Al Jazairi. Nicolas plays the role of Karam on the show. Karam is a co-worker of Sarah and Zein and is often the source of jealousy for Zein. Karam and Sarah get along well together, much to the dislike of Zein.
Nicola is a Lebanese actor as well, and he first rose to fame through the show Ruby and Zero 4. He has been a part of the Arabic version of Dancing With The Stars and has been a part of Egyptian dramas as well. Other examples of his work are Wannous, Saabe’ Gaar, and His Only Son.
Al Thaman: Plot Of The Show
With her job being given to her on a lie, Sarah makes sure the work she does is top-notch to make up for the secret she has. However, over time Sarah realizes it’s hard to manage both the job and looking after her son. Whenever she’s absent from the office, Zein loses his confidence in her abilities.
Things become much harder when the doctor gives Sarah an ultimatum for her son’s treatment. His condition had gotten worse, and he now needed a bone marrow transplant immediately to save his life. The main problem for Sarah was the huge amount of cash she had to arrange in a matter of few days. Having nowhere to go, she asks her husband’s father to help his grandson, who he had previously disowned.
He refuses to provide the necessary amount, leaving Sarah no choice. She tries to look for more ways to aid the treatment, which causes her to be absent from work quite often. This makes Zein mad at her, and she eventually starts treating her differently. Not being able to handle the excessive stress from all sides, Sarah decides to leave the job.

Treatment costs come too late from Ibrahim’s grandfather’s side, which causes Sarah to be in a state of sadness. She had been working on a project in Dubai along with Zein, which later brought her immeasurable success. She ends up winning an award for her work on the project.
Zein finds out the actual reason behind her absence from the office, which makes him full of regret for how he had behaved with her. Sarah eventually finds new job offers, which finalizes her leave from their current place. Zein doesn’t like that and hopes she chooses to work here again. Karam and Sarah’s friendship causes more unrest within Zein, which causes the duo to have tension between them.
Ever since he was rude to Sarah without knowing the problems she was going through, Zein had been feeling bad about himself. He even goes as far as trying to leave the job he loves just to make Sarah work in a much more comfortable environment.
Later, he has a complete change of heart and helps Sarah come back to the company they had been working for together. He starts to focus on the project which he hopes will be successful, as he will be starting its execution phase soon.
Sarah, on the other hand, is closer to achieving her dreams as well, despite people trying to distract her from her goals. Certain people try to make fake allegations against Zein, wanting to tarnish his pristine image, But Zein could care less about anything other than work.
