Lee Jin-seo’s latest Sci-Fi Comedy, Brain Works, will soon release the next episode of the show. Revolving around Neuroscientist Shin Ha-ru and detective Geum Myung-se, the story is a humorous journey of the duo working together in solving cases by focusing on how the criminal’s brains work.
It was announced to be in the making way back in July 2022 and was finally seen on Korean Television on January 2nd, 2023. It casts Jung Yong-Hwa and Cha Tae-hyun as the main protagonists, who don’t get along well.
They start working together due to strange circumstances, but as they solve each case in a partnership, both Shin Ha-ru and Geum Myung-se realize just how easier the cases become. With Shin’s extraordinary brain and Geum’s selfless brain, each case can be solved through different perspectives.
Brain Works has been directed by Lee Jin Seo, the same director behind other series such as Heaven’s Order and Revolutionary Sisters. It has been written by the talented Park Kyung-seon and executively produced by KBS producer Park Ki-ho.
Brain Works: Cast Of The K-Drama
Although it’s been only 3 episodes, the cast of Brain Works has received much appreciation for their acting on the show. Jung Yong-hwa portrays the character Shin Ha-ru, the arrogant, selfish yet intelligent neuroscientist who doesn’t shy away from manipulating people to get what he wants.
Jung Yong-hwa was born in Seoul and began his music career after shifting to Busan. It was only in college that he came back to Seoul and started focusing much more on producing music. Jung Yong-hwa”s songs have reached the Korean charts multiple times.
His acting career began in 2009, when he starred in the show You’re Beautiful. Since then he has been a part of the dramas Heartstrings (2011), The Package (2017), and even the film Cook Up A Storm, where he played the character Chef Ahn Paul.
Geum Myung Se’s part is played by the award-winning actor Cha Tae-hyun. Born in Seoul as well, this actor began his acting career with the shows and movies like Sunflower and Hallelujah. It was after winning a Silver medal in an acting contest by KBS that he had been recognized by producers. Cha Tae-hyun has played part in My Sassy Girl, Hello Ghost, and Police University.
Brain Works Episode 3: Recap
In the previous episodes of Brain Works, we’ve seen Shin Ha-ru extracting the brain of a criminal unethically without the consent form. He does get the form signed, but the psychopath ends up eating it. Shin Ha-ru had wanted the brain at any cost since it was 100% psychopathic without any underlying diseases.
After producing a fake form, he gets the brain, despite the chancellor’s son trying to stop him. Geum Myung se somehow ends up in a complicated situation and hears that the form was fake from Shin Ha-ru’s assistant.
While having dinner later with a reporter friend, Myung se ends up revealing about the fake form in a drunken state. The next day news of Shin ha-ru’s unethical work starts spreading like fire. He is even fired after the disciplinary committee chooses to not consider the favor he had done for them.
When a guitarist passes away on stage, Geum Myung se’s Neuroscientific department is called to investigate the matter. He and his boss find that the guitarist’s wife was the suspect when she recalls using a bracelet that enhanced his Parkinson’s.
Shin Ha ru joins Myung se’s department and starts working with him while promising that he’ll make his job harder for him. When Shin comes across the Guitarist’s case he finds out that the wife is suffering from Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome, and it was the manager who was the killer.
Brain Works Episode 4: Release Date
The next episode of this Sci-Fi comedy will be seen on January 10th, 2023. New episodes of Brain Works are aired on Mondays and Tuesdays, with a single episode lasting about 67-70 minutes.
Where To Watch Brain Works?
This K-drama will be aired on KBS2 for South Korean Viewers at around 9:50 pm KST and 7:45 am EST. It is also available to stream at Rakuten Viki, Prime Video, Kocowa, or Viu, for viewers from USA, Philippines, and a few other countries. As of now, Brain Works has limited streaming options.
