Naruto Shippuden, one of the big three, one of the best anime ever, has given us some epic moments. Created by Masashi Kishimoto, the story follows a young knuckleheaded ninja named Naruto. Naruto has been an orphan since birth and harbors the Nine-Tails Fox inside him. Overall Naruto has 720 episodes. Part one of the series, simply named Naruto, has 220 episodes. Part two, often known as Naruto Shippuden, has 500 episodes. 720 episodes might seem a stretch to watch to some. Although the show is extremely popular, it also has several filler episodes. While some of these fillers can be boring, others are worth watching, as here we shall look into a filler, Tsunade’s Dream.
Some filler episodes give the backstory of a character, as seen in Kakashi’s chronicles. Kakashi’s Chronicles gave us an insight into the earlier days of Kakashi. Another filler arc gives us the story of fan-favorite Itachi Uchiha. One of the show’s primary villains, Madara Uchiha, succeeds in casting the Infinite Tsukuyomi. The Infinite Tsukuyomi, according to Madara, will unveil world peace. During the Tsukuyomi, we saw the dreams of every major character. One such interesting dream was of the then Hokage, Tsunade.
How Many Episodes Did Tsunade’s Dream Cover?
The Infinite Tsukuyomi started in Episode 426 and went on till the end of the war. In Episode 474, the infinite Tsukuyomi is ended after Naruto and Sasuke are able to seal Kaguya away. Meanwhile, Tsunade’s Tsukuyomi dream spans from episodes 432 to 450.
What Happens In Tsunade’s Dream?
Tsunade’s Tsukuyomi dream arc takes up the story from a novel written by Jiraiya in a dream within Tsunade’s dream. We see a totally different shinobi world, a world that all of us wanted for Naruto. Minato and Kushina are well and alive after the nine tails attack. Uchiha clan never went into downfall as Minato, and Hiruzen Sarutobi managed to negotiate with the Uchiha. As a result, Itachi never went rogue, and neither did Sasuke. Naruto is trying to control the nine tails’ chakra, and the nine tails himself is helping Naruto willingly. Naruto is also joined by Nagato and Konan, who did not die.
Team Kakashi, Team Kurenai, Team Guy, and Team Asuma are sent on a mission. They have to look into recent abductions of academy graduates. Akatsuki is revealed to be behind this. After rescuing the students, almost everyone disperses and goes their way. Jiraiya goes to one of Orochimaru’s hideouts. Neji leaves Naruto and follows a masked man with byakugan. Neji leaves his friends with the masked man. On the other side, Sasuke and Sakura are attacked by Sasori. Naruto comes to the aid of Sasuke and Sakura, which causes Sasori to retreat. Later on, the masked man is revealed to be a reincarnated Hizashi Hyuga, Neji’s father.
Part Two Of Tsunade’s Dream
After returning to the village, Sasuke starts his training with Kakashi in order to learn Chidori. Meanwhile, Naruto goes to Minato and Jiraiya to better his Rasengan. Then we see Sasuke asking for a transfer from team 7 to Konoha military police (because of his jealousy due to Naruto getting stronger). Naruto leaves with Jiraiya to train, and Sakura starts training under Tsunade. After the time skip, Sasuke has become as powerful as Shisui and Itachi. Fugaku appoints Sasuke as a lieutenant in the police force. Naruto soon comes back to the village and fights with Sasuke, ending abruptly.
Sasuke becomes angry with Naruto and threatens Kushina. This results in Fugaku permanently expelling Sasuke from the police force. Sasuke leaves the village for Orochimaru. Upon hearing this, Minato orders a search mission for Sasuke. Naruto and Shikamaru leave the village secretly and are later joined by Team Guy. Sasuke comes afront with Orochimaru and demands more power. Orochimaru gives the cursed seal to Sasuke. Naruto and Sasuke enrage in an epic battle. Itachi appears and supposedly dies after taking one of Sasuke’s attacks. The battle ends with Naruto on the losing side. Remembering Itachi, Sasuke awakens the Mangekyo Sharingan.
Pain Assault And The War
Pain arrives in Konoha seeking revenge for Yahiko’s death, which according to him, was caused by Minato ordering the destruction of a village. He captures the whole village in his Chibaku Tensei. Naruto arrives, and the battle between him and Pain begins. The battle is almost similar to the one we see in Pain’s assault arc. Kushina arrives and helps Naruto when he is cornered down by Pain. Naruto goes to Nagato’s hideout and, using his talk no Jutsu saves the village. On the other hand, Sasuke kills Orochimaru and is confronted by Sasori, who says Akatsuki will help him exact revenge on Konoha.
Naruto and all his comrades reach the Akatsuki hideout. Sasuke, realizing Sasori’s ill intentions decide to aid Naruto and Sakura to stop him. Team 7 uses their summoning Jutsu. Jiraiya arrives with Nagato and Konan to help Naruto. Meanwhile, Itachi also arrives and saves Sasuke. At this time, we all saw something we always wanted. Itachi and Sasuke together use their Susanoo to fight the puppets.
The Ending Of Tsunade’s Tsukuyomi Dream
Just as in the original ending, Naruto and Sasuke duke it out in an epic battle. They both trade serious blows at each other. After using an arsenal of attacks and getting exhausted, the fight comes to an end. Sasuke admits defeat and comes back to the village.
Tsunade wakes up and sees Dan wearing the Hokage hat. They are going to the Five Kage summit. Going down the hall Tsunade also sees Jiraiya, Orochimaru, and Nawaki. But, later, it is revealed that Tsunade is still asleep under the Tsukuyomi and was dreaming.
Conclusion
All in all, Lady Tsunade’s dream was probably the best Tsukuyomi dream we have seen. Filler episodes are usually not worth watching, but if you have missed this filler arc, then you are truly missing out on something really, really great. It shows a life for Naruto that all of us fans wanted all along. Growing up with both his father and mother and his sensei Jiraiya. This is not something only we wanted, but even Naruto wanted for himself. But on the other hand, fans would be glad to see this as a dream and not a reality because Naruto would not have been what we see it as today.
