Hanaichi Fudo is a dependable office worker who leads a quiet, ordinary life. But hidden behind his calm demeanor is a long-buried passion for art. Hanaichi once dreamed of becoming a professional artist, but he gave up on his ambitions in favor of pursuing a stable and conventional career. Though he let go of his artistic aspirations, the desire to create never completely disappeared.
One day, his life takes an unexpected turn when Saori Wakaba, a senior colleague at work, approaches him with a surprising request. Saori, it turns out, is secretly trying to create her own manga, but she’s struggling to bring her ideas to life.
Knowing about Hanaichi’s artistic talents, she pleads with him to help her write and illustrate the story. At first, Hanaichi hesitates. He left his artistic dreams behind for a reason—returning to that world feels like opening old wounds.
Monochrome Days Plot
Saori’s determination and excitement gradually chip away at his reluctance. Hanaichi agrees to lend a hand, thinking it will be a one-time thing. But as he begins to work with Saori, sketching out characters and weaving together storylines, Hanaichi feels something he hasn’t in years—a spark of inspiration and joy.
The process of collaborating on the manga reminds him of the thrill and satisfaction that creating art used to bring him.
As they dive deeper into the project, Hanaichi and Saori face challenges, from balancing their demanding office jobs with late-night brainstorming sessions to pondering creative differences. Through it all, Hanaichi finds himself questioning whether he made the right choice all those years ago. Should he have given up on his dream so easily? And now that he’s holding a pen again, is it too late to chase it?
