In his caption, he started off by directly addressing fans’ concerns and rumors regarding his retirement by saying that a piece of news that was unclear to him had come out and that he wanted to set the record straight. He went on to clearly state, “I am not retiring.” Instead, he continued, he was going to “hit the pause button for a year” after what will be his 70th birthday in 2026. He then took a moment to acknowledge that seventy is quite an unbelievable age for him.
He then said that he is not sure what “pausing” really means and that right now, it simply means that it will add to whatever he has. He pointed out that, most importantly, a year off would give him enough time to spend with his “beautiful wife of 34 years”, Robin Dearden, in a way that he was unable to in the past twenty-five years due to his work. He then adorably remarked that he and his wife would finally have time to live as a typical, normal, loving married couple entering the latter halves of their lives with new hopes, goals, and experiences.
He also brought attention to the fact that the “pause” would give him a “reset” in his career. He looked back upon the past two decades of “playing characters on TV, films, and on stage” and expressed his immense gratitude for being presented with those opportunities. He admitted that he feels like he is “beginning to run out of fresh ideas” in terms of the way of playing the new characters that he was being offered. Piggybacking on that remark of his, he said that a break would aid in replenishing his soul and bring him back as an actor with the ability to prepare for his roles in a more authentic way.
He let the fans know that he would be inactive on social media, would step away from the eternally hectic world of business, and read the novels that he had promised himself that he would read but didn’t get the chance to.
Finally, he said that he’s “got some unfinished business.” He announced that multiple of his films that he’s proud of are set to release and that he’s producing a few stories for TV that he really loves. He also added that he is somewhat focusing on returning to Broadway too. He ended his heartfelt message to fans by thanking everyone who supported him during his career, expressing that he is aware of how blessed he is and that he wishes all of his followers well. He wrapped up his last sentence by saying that he’ll see everyone soon enough and ended with an endearing “Love, Bryan.”
Surely, fans are heartbroken to receive news of the actor’s upcoming hiatus, but they have nothing but love and support to shower on Bryan right now. After all, what’s an artist without his authenticity?
