Max and Robert Downey Jr. team up in their new series Downey’s Dream Cars. The show revolves around the actor converting cars from his collection into modern-day beasts that are just as sustainable as they are powerful.
During his early years, Robert felt that every successful person started collecting something, so he shifted his focus to cars, something he had always been fond of. Although these cars have given him the performance and style he had always loved, Downey started to shut them away. This was because of the harm they caused to the climate.
Now that there’s enough technology to convert these cars into electric ones that wouldn’t require as much fuel, Robert calls upon his car mods experts from Dream Car Restorations and other groups to ensure that these eco mods make the car environment friendly while also maintaining its initial power and looks. The show will be documenting the conversion of six of Robert’s cars into the most powerful electric vehicles.
Downey’s Dream Cars: About The Show
Robert Downey Jr. has been part of climate preservation groups for a few years. He was inspired by the Marvel movies and decided to use his inspiration to protect the Earth from destruction in real life as well.
In Downey’s Dream Cars, we see a team of car experts taking up this one-of-a-kind project that involves converting already perfect cars into electric ones. This may sound simple, but as we see in Robert’s documentary, the job requires experience and creativity since no one has done it to such an extent before.
Downey’s Dream Cars begin with the transformation of a monster vehicle, the 1972 purple K10 pickup that Robert calls his “Thanos Thumper.” As powerful and huge as it was, this monster pickup also used up a lot of gas and made loud noise whenever it was being used. Robert wanted to make it the “strong-silent type” and had people like Chris Mazzilli and Rich Benoit work on it.
We also catch a glimpse of Robert’s family throughout the show, especially in the second episode, where you’ll be seeing Robert convert an old Benz left by his mom into an electric car. Downey reveals that his love for cars and driving is a trait that was passed down to him by his mom, as she used to love cars way too much.
Another amazing car that we see being converted on Downey’s Dream Cars is the 1966 Buick Riviera, a car that’s beautiful to look at but is not at all fuel efficient. It was first sold as the “car of the future,” but now that the future is dark, if nothing’s done about climate change, the car must be transformed with eco mods to make it the true car of the future.
There are a few other cars that we’ll see being converted on this show. Each episode will feature Robert revealing the history behind all of his cars, followed by the car experts reviewing it before deciding how to go about with the conversions. The series will also feature Robert traveling to interesting places, making Downey’s Dream Cars more exciting to watch.
