These locations featured on Outback Opal Hunters are known for their opal ores and are also home to the rare Aurora Australis, the most expensive opal ever seen.
With almost 100 countries airing the episodes of the show, this Discovery documentary has managed to carve a name for itself in its genre. In season 9 of Outback Opal Hunters, the groups that we’ll be seeing are The Mooka Boys, The Misfits, Opal Whisperers, The Tarantos, The Bishop, The Cheals, The Blacklighters, The Young Guns, and The Bushmen. Outback Opal Hunters Season 9 Episode 4: Recap
In the previous episode, we see The Bushmen head over to Grawin to make a deal with Lefty Marshall. They have been in search of good land to start mining and take off the new season with a high yield. When Lefty asks for 8 grand for the land, the Bushmen start to contemplate the deal, as they would have to definitely find opals to make profits or they’d end up in loss.
Grawin is a famous opal mining area and the group checks the land out before buying it from Lefty, who wouldn’t go a dollar down on his price. Seeing the land up close, they notice its near to the million-dollar mile, a strip of land that’s known to have many opal ores. The only concern was that the ores could have been already worked out, and would leave the Bushmen empty-handed.
After entering the mines they notice that most of the mine had been dug out. A chewed pillar indicates that miners who had shifted to their “Dark side” had visited the place and had done some secret mining at night to make money without paying the lease fees. The Bushmen come out and agree to buy the land from Lefty. They’ve been looking for a soft mine and were excited to get a hold of the Grawin land and start their work.
They start mining seriously and split to look for soft spots. After just a few minutes of mining, they find a big piece of opal within the walls, giving the Bushmen hope that they finally might be able to reach their goal for this season. The stones they find are black seam opals which they sell to Benny for $7,000. They later shave his head in honor of a good start to the season.
