At the beginning of most Pokemon games, players are given the opportunity to choose one of three starter Pokemon to begin their journey with. These starter Pokemon are usually the first Pokemon that players encounter in the game and are typically easier to catch than other Pokemon found in the game.
Players can choose from a variety of different types of starter Pokemon, such as fire, grass, or water types, depending on the game. Throughout their journey, players are often guided by a professor, who helps them learn about Pokemon and provides them with valuable information and resources. The professor may also give players access to certain items or abilities that can help them on their journey.
In addition to the professor, many Pokemon games also feature a rival character who serves as a foil to the player character. This rival character may be a friend or acquaintance of the player character and is often competitive, trying to outdo the player character in battles and other challenges. The rival character may also serve as a source of conflict or tension in the game’s story, as they often have different goals or motivations than the player character.
Who Is Nemona In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?
In Pokemon games, rival trainers are characters who challenge the player character to battles as they progress through the game. These battles are typically meant to provide a challenge and test the player character’s skills as a trainer. The player character may encounter these rival trainers at various points in the game, such as at specific locations or during specific events in the story.
The rival trainers in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, including Nemona, follow this pattern and challenge the player character to battles throughout their journey.
As the player character progresses through the game and becomes stronger, the rival trainers they encounter, including Nemona, will also become stronger and use more powerful Pokemon in their battles against the player character. This is meant to provide a sense of progression and challenge to the player as they progress through the game.
The battles with Nemona, in particular, are intended to be increasingly challenging, with her using stronger and more formidable Pokemon as the player character progresses through the game. This helps to create a sense of tension and drama in the story, as the player character must work hard to overcome these challenges and become the best trainer they can be.
How Can You Beat Nemona in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?
First Battle Against Nemona:
In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, players will encounter Nemona, a rival trainer, for the first time at the beginning of the game. This is a common feature of Pokemon games, as players typically encounter their rival trainer shortly after starting their journey and selecting their starter Pokemon.
In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the type of starter Pokemon that the player chooses will determine which Pokemon Nemona uses in the battle.
Level | Pokemon | Type |
5 | Quaxly/Fuecoco/ Sprigatito | Water/Fire/Grass |
In most Pokemon games, the rival trainer will choose a Pokemon that is strong against the player’s starter in order to provide a moderate challenge to the player.
However, in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Nemona takes a different approach and chooses a Pokemon that is weak against the player’s starter, making the first battle relatively easy for the player. This is a departure from the typical pattern in Pokemon games and may be intended to give the player a sense of confidence as they begin their journey.
It is worth noting that while the first battle with Nemona may be easy, the player can expect to encounter stronger and more formidable versions of Nemona throughout their journey in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, as is common in Pokemon games.
As the player character becomes stronger and more skilled, the rival trainers they encounter, including Nemona, will also become stronger and use more powerful Pokemon in their battles against the player. This helps to create a sense of progression and challenge for the player as they progress through the game.
Second Battle Against Nemona:
During the opening chapter of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, players will encounter Nemona for a second time at the Mesagoza Gates. At this point in the game, Nemona will have two Pokemon on her team instead of just one, which may present a slightly greater challenge to the player.
However, defeating Nemona at this point should still be manageable for the player, particularly if they have caught a Ground Type Pokemon and are able to use it in the battle.
Ground Type Pokemon are generally strong against grass, bug, and Water Type Pokemon, which may be useful in this encounter. Players should be prepared for more challenging battles with Nemona as they progress through the game, as she will continue to get stronger and use more powerful Pokemon in her battles against the player.
Level | Pokemon | Type |
8 | Quaxly/Fuecoco/ Sprigatito | Water/Fire/Grass |
9 | Pawmi | Electric |
Defeating Nemona’s starter Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet should be relatively easy for the player, as their own starter Pokemon should have learned a move of a type that is super effective against Nemona’s starter by this point in the game.
However, Nemona’s other Pokemon, called Pawmi, may present a greater challenge due to the fact that it has been terastallized, which increases the damage of its electric-type moves. To counter this, the player may want to use a ground-type Pokemon that is at least on the same level as Pawmi, or even higher, in the battle.
It is important to note that the player may not have access to the crystallizing ability at this point in the game, so using a ground-type Pokemon may be the best strategy. It is worth noting that Nemona’s other Pokemon may also be terastallized and may present a greater challenge as the player progresses through the game.
To counter Nemona’s terastallized Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the player may want to consider using a ground-type Pokemon in the battle.
At this point in the game, the player should have two solid ground-type options to choose from: catching a Diglett or adding a new Pokemon called Paldean Wooper to their team. Using a ground-type Pokemon in the battle should give the player an advantage and make it easier to defeat Nemona and her Pokemon.
If the player is successful in defeating Nemona, they will receive a reward of 530 Poke Dollars, and three revives. In addition, Nemona will teach the player about Tera Pokemon and how to use the terastallizing ability. These rewards and new knowledge will be valuable to the player as they continue their journey through Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
Third Battle Against Nemona:
In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Nemona, the rival trainer, will challenge the player character to a battle after they have completed two gyms and are about to enter the third. This encounter takes place inside the building of the third gym, regardless of the order in which the player completes the gyms.
During this battle, Nemona will have three Pokemon on her team, which may present a greater challenge to the player compared to previous battles.
It is not clear why Nemona chooses to challenge the player at the third gym specifically, but it could be because it is the third time that the player is facing her and she has three Pokemon on her team or because she simply likes the number three.
Regardless of the reason, players can expect to encounter Nemona for a third time at the third gym in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
Level | Pokemon | Type |
22 | Quaxwell/Floragato/Crocalor | Water (Tera), Grass (Tera), Fire (Tera) |
21 | Pawmi | Electric |
21 | Rockruff | Rock |
During the third battle with Nemona in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, it will be helpful for the player to have a ground-type Pokemon on their team, as Nemona’s first two Pokemon are weak to ground-type moves.
If the player used a ground-type Pokemon in their previous battle with Nemona, they should consider continuing to train it in order to make it more powerful and better equipped to handle the challenges of this battle.
In this battle, Nemona will terastallize her starter Pokemon, which may present a greater challenge to the player. To counter this, the player may want to use their own starter Pokemon in the battle, ensuring that it is at least on the same level as Nemona’s starter or higher.
If the player has abandoned their starter Pokemon and no longer has it on their team, they will need to use a different Pokemon that has moves that are super effective against Nemona’s starter. Otherwise, they may find themselves in a difficult position and may struggle to defeat Nemona and her Pokemon.
Fourth Battle Against Nemona:
The fourth battle with Nemona in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet takes place after the player character has obtained the fifth gym badge. This encounter will be watched by Geeta, the top champion of the Paldea region. Nemona will have four Pokemon on her team during this battle, including a dragon-type Pokemon called Goomy.
To be successful in this battle, it will be helpful for the player to have a ground-type Pokemon on their team, as Lycancroc and Pawmo are both weak-to-ground type moves and can be easily defeated by exploiting this weakness. If the player’s starter Pokemon is now a Quaquaval or Meowscarada, they can also be used to take out Lycanroc.
Level | Pokemon | Type |
37 | Quaquaval/Meowscarada/Skeledirge | Fighting (Tera)/Water/Dark (Tera)/Ghost (Tera)/Fire |
36 | Pawmo | Electric |
36 | Goomy | Dragon |
36 | Lycanroc | Rock |
Goomy may present a greater challenge, as ice and dragon-type Pokemon may be relatively rare at this point in the game. In this case, the player may want to consider catching a strong fairy-type Pokemon, such as Tinkatink or one of its evolutions, to use in the battle.
Nemona will also terastallize her starter Pokemon, so the player will need to have either their starter or another Pokemon with moves that are super effective against it reach at least level 37 or higher in order to counter it. By following these strategies, the player should be able to successfully defeat Nemona and her Pokemon in the fourth battle.
Fifth Battle Against Nemona:
In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the player character will encounter Nemona for the fifth time as soon as they enter the building of the seventh gym. This encounter will follow the same pattern as previous battles with Nemona, with the main difference being that Nemona’s Goomy has not evolved into Sliggoo.
Nemona’s team will otherwise be largely unchanged from the previous battle, with all of her Pokemon being of the same type aside from her starter.
Level | Pokemon | Type |
42 | Quaquaval/Meowscarada/Skeledirge | Fighting (Tera)/Water/Dark (Tera)/Ghost (Tera)/Fire |
42 | Pawmo | Electric |
42 | Goomy | Dragon |
43 | Lycanroc | Rock |
To defeat Nemona in this battle, the player should use the same strategies that they used in previous encounters with her. Ground-type moves remain crucial against Nemona’s team due to the weakness of her Lycanroc and Pawmo to these moves.
Alternatively, the player can use a Pokemon with a strong enough level that knows a good ground-type move or a fairy-type Pokemon, which is completely unaffected by dragon-type moves and can be effective against Nemona’s team.
As always, Nemona will terastallize her starter Pokemon, which will be a level ahead of the rest of her team. To counter this, the player should have either their starter or a different Pokemon with moves that are super effective against Nemona’s starter on a level of 43 or higher.
By following these strategies, the player should be able to successfully defeat Nemona and her Pokemon in the fifth battle.
Final Battle (Champion) Against Nemona:
In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the player character will have the opportunity to face off against Nemona for a final time after defeating the elite four and the top champion, Geeta, at the Pokemon League. This final battle with Nemona will take place at the Mesagoza Central Plaza.
To be successful in this battle, it will be important for the player to have a strong ground-type move or a ground-type Pokemon on their team. These will be effective against Lycanroc, Pawmo, and Orthworm, all of which are weak-to-ground type moves.
Level | Pokemon | Type |
66 | Quaquaval/Meowscarada/Skeledirge | Fighting (Tera)/Water/Dark (Tera)/Ghost (Tera)/Fire |
65 | Pawmot | Electric |
65 | Goodra | Dragon |
65 | Lycanroc | Rock |
65 | Dudunsparce | Normal |
65 | Orthworm | Steel |
The player may also want to use the same fairy-type Pokemon they used against Goomy and Sliggoo to defeat Goodra, the final evolution of Goomy. For Dudensparce, a fighting-type Pokemon or a Pokemon with a fighting-type move will be effective, or the player can use their starter’s final evolution, Quaquaval if they have it on their team.
Finally, Nemona will terastallize her starter Pokemon, and the player may want to do the same to increase their chances of winning. By sticking to their strengths and using the same tactics they have used in previous battles with Nemona, the player should be able to defeat her one final time and complete the Victory Road storyline.
