Dexter is truly one of the unique Crime Drama TV Shows there is. The show follows the life of Dexter Morgan. By day he is a brilliant Blood Spatter Analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department. And by night, he becomes the most dangerous Serial Killer the world has seen.
Despite what we have been led to believe about Serial Killers, Dexter is different. One could say he is a stealthier version of Marvel’s The Punisher. He is not your typical serial killer. Does he kill for Pleasure? Yes, he does. But each and every one of his “victims” deserved everything that happened to them.
Being part of the Miami Metro PD, he has access to the criminal database. His victims are strictly criminals. Those who caused hurt intentionally. Several of these criminals are set free due to technicalities in the legal system.
Mishandling of Evidence, Breaking the Chain of Custody, and Faulty Search Warrants to name a few. Dexter exists to bring justice to people who were failed by the Justice System. His unique insight into the psyche of criminals helps in solving cases during his day job.
Dexter’s stepfather Henry Morgan was a police officer, and he became aware of Dexter’s condition early on. During his childhood, Dexter would find and kill small animals. When confronted by Harry, Dexter confesses to having these urges.
When he asked whether he had thought of killing something larger, Dexter responded with yes. He clarified that he didn’t go through with it as he thought it would make his foster parents sad. It was then Harry realized that Dexter wasn’t a mindless killer. Unlike the others.

Dexter Morgan is a Forensic Scientist with a very dark secret. Everyone has skeletons in their closets. But in Dexter’s case, it’s not metaphorical. From a very young age, Dexter’s foster dad, Henry, trained Dexter to channel his urges.
And to adhere to certain rules. The Code Of Harry, he calls it. The most important code was never to hurt an innocent. Henry being a cop with decades of experience, helped Dexter in becoming what he is today.
He taught him how to cover his tracks, how to hide in plain sight, and, more importantly, how to think like a police officer. This proved most helpful as it helped Dexter in remaining one step ahead. He carefully stalks his victims, carefully studying their routine.
Then he finds hard evidence that suggests the person actually is guilty. He then sets up his kill room. Most of the time, a place that means something to the victim. After subduing them, he sees to it that the person will never commit a crime ever again.
